Corky68
Evening all, any advice on getting land to shoot would be appreciated, at present I shoot with a good friend on his permissions but would like some of my own so that I can go when I want to go,My friend has got the local area pretty well covered so I have wrote to several farmers further afield but no luck or replies. Any ideas/advice?

chillweed
as he stated his good friend has the local area covered im assuming were talking a biggish area .(so his good friend cant shoot everywhere) as for any of my good friends and i mean mates that i take shooting on my perm they are more then welcome to ask the farmer if they can have permission to shoot it too (they dont have to ask me why would they im not there keeper im there mate supposedly ) the farmer gives the permission not the one who is already privileged to shoot ( i it think theres to much of this get off my land i shoot it lark you want that then you got to own the land buy the farm if it was like that then none of us would be shooting.) i shoot a lot of the same land what my mates shoot and people i dont no ( should they have had to ask me ?) i do not own the land i shoot on i was given the privilege of been able to shoot it because i knocked the doors and asked the farmer like everyone else has to do (well most) be it a mate or a stranger as in someone you dont personally no im sure id sooner no the guy/girl shooting the land i shoot that way there can be a bit of coordination and some healthy competition .. pigeonblasterian
and your mate must have more land then he can shoot so knock on the same doors he has the farmer gives the shooting permission not ya mate so knock on the same doors he has the farmer gives the shooting permission not ya mate do that and he will not be you mate for long If you want to lose a mate who has been taking you out on his perms the easiest way to do it is ask the farmers he shoots for behind his back. If your mate gets to know do you think he will still be your mate and take you out if the farmer tells you no. I would not trust anybody who gives that kind of advice. colin lad
If any of my mates want to ask my farmers if they can shoot it then crack on that's fine by me as they are my mates, it's what mates do (share) i am not selfish like some Colin ps having said that most of them would only say "we have someone already" and if you said you were my mate they would probably say " get Colin to take you out then"
kyska
My only advice other to what is usually given here, all good of course, is to small step, I have door knockers, e mails, letters and pm's all the time, it gets tiresome. The best way, IMO is to find specific problems, 'I've noticed pigeon on this one field, if you'd like I can get rid of them for you this weekend' rather than 'hi, I don't know you, and you don't know me, can I have free reign over your 1000+ farm please?' pigeonblasterian
I have taken the best part of 20 members out of here ne er once has one asked for written permission from my farmer and the day one does will be the last time he shoots with me Colin Above taken from another thread but seems to be a bit of a contradiction to the below. Unless of course you do not class any of the members you have taken out as mates. Unless of course you do not class any of the members you have taken out as mates. i could of worded it better then there mates and members of this forum in am taking out for the 1st time i would not call a member i have o ly spoken to on here and met for the 1st time a mate would you, however there are 2 members that i ha e known for 2+ years off here and shot with on numerous occasions that i now call mates bazab who i got permission for him to shoot on the farm where i work and mungolee who i helped him gain permission on a golf course that i shot he now is the main shooter there and I vo alo g as his guest i keep telling him to ask my farmer for permission which he wont, had they both asked for written permission on our 1st meet up then it would of been the last, so maybe i could of worded it better but you get my gist Colin

I take a few pw members out as well. Some have become mates and know they can get in touch and come anytime if i am going out. But i have also been out with other members on their permission and who i class as a mate. But i would never ask the farmer of someone who took me out on their permission for permission. I just think it would be morally wrong for me to do so. So anyone who said it was ok to do that i would not be able to trust.
BRNDL
It's bad form to intrude on a friends permission. If your friend is keen for you to ask then that's fine, otherwise it is a no no. Put the hard yards in elsewhere and get your own land, then you can exchange permission rights if you like. If my friends asked for permission on the land I shoot hopefully they would be turned down from the farmer...and then turned down by me at every opportunity moving forward,

Corky68
Interesting views lads, personally I don't think it's right to sneak in behind a good friends back, as stated he invites me whenever he's out and we've had some good 250 plus bags when things have gone to plan. I would much prefer to find my own permissions and be able to invite him on my days out, Call me old school!!!
