Ok chaps, the key on my front door has snapped and won't work in my front door,

It is a mortise type lock, any ideas on how to break the lock or pick it without destroying the door.

If anyone is concerned that their identity as a bugular will be revealed please PM me the info..

Your help is much appreaciated.

What type of hinges do you have on the door? The easiest way without the expense of a locksmith is to either remove the pin from the knuckle of the hinge if they are loose pin type or to cut the knuckle of using hacksaw ect. Once the two leafs of the hinge are separate you can push the door out from the hinged side and the bolt of the lock will come out of the keep. You can then get to the lock. You cannot open mortice type locks without specialist picks and most mortice locks now have anti drill plates installed at the point where you need to drill to release the leavers.

Cheers

You ain't got a hope of trying to pick it yourself unless you are very good at picking locks allready and I guess you're not as you're asking for help.

Presumably you're locked out which means you can't access the hinges?

If it's a yale style key you could open it with a bump key but again you'd need to have one to hand.

If you're inside then doing the hinges will work otherwise it's a call to a locksmith I'm afraid.

Telephone the Police and give them the annonymous tip that you are a crack house and currently dealing drugs to school children.

They will come round and kick your door down............................................the only problem is it will be sometime next week, or the week after. :good:
