old rooster
Went out this morning to fell and log up a damaged Ash tree, used the little Mitox saw with 20" bar and it didn't miss a beat. All this lot done in about 6 hours using just the saw and a splitting axe. I now need a cold beer!!! Still got another few branches to cut up and a big chunk of the lower trunk. flynny
Nice work, I've just chopped up a silver birch , from blocks into burner size pieces with the splitting maul Hard work but damn satisfying, will keep the man cave burner going for a while, Atb Flynny
old rooster
Going to struggle a bit to split the main trunk section, maybe leave it to dry a year or so first? It is satisfying although the uvver arf can't understand it, mind you she is a dab hand at lobbing them into the wood burner!!! LOL

Split into quarters, saw cut to length, then split down to size with the maul. Job done.

flynny
Woodcock, very true comments bout the silver birch, but it's free and burns brightly. A mate of mine runs a scout camp/ training centre and there always dropping diseased/ damaged trees do, I ain't bought timber for 3 years now, Atb Flynny
old rooster
I just can't get over how well the Mitox handled quite a sizeable trunk, great little machines IMHO and cheap as chips. This one has paid for itself several times over now. The only thing that went wrong was the bar mounting studs were a bit soft and the threads wore so I took them out and made up some high tensile steel replacements, sorted it no probs. old rooster
Went back to finish the cutting up today, ran out of time to do all the splitting but sorted the main trunk by cutting it into slightly shorter sections, split up a treat with the old axe! The trusty little Mitox did another great days work (well half a day) LOL Didn't expect to get another trailer full. I can finish off the splitting at home then store it all away in the dry. Filled my log shed and had to start putting some in my main garden equipment shed. Seems a shame to leave it out when it is already so nice and dry.
