Dougy
After popping up to one of my local perms i couldn't help but notice the wonderful aroma of muck being spread over a recently ploughed up maize field, wonderful, because its going to get the interest from a few Fox's in the area and i would be out later getting a good wiff and see what it brings in. I parked up and got my gear sorted, loaded mag, bolt in, lamp on, hat on, night vision ready for spotting, i took my Sako out for a change but and due to the Swaro scope it wont accept the archer mount so made do with just lamping. All sorted and ready to go i checked out the field with the archer that had just been spread, a nice bright pair of eyes top left of the field, i thought this was good going 10 minutes and into number 1 already. Put the rifle on top of the pick up roof, climbed up checked again still there mooching around, chambered a round and pointed the rifle roughly in the direction of the fox, checked again, no sign. Give it a minute or 2 and give it a squeak, still no sign, then it appeared, right side this time, rifle up, lamp on, a quick squeak and sent the 55 nosler on the way. Contact, saw it drop, the tail was the last thing it showed, its last wave good by. After waiting for about 1/2 an hour (coffee break) nothing else showed so i moved on. The second was taken using a caller set out about 150 yards into a field further up the farm, this was reasonably easy in comparison.I put the rodent squeal on wacked up the volume for a couple of minutes then turned it down and waited, again on the back of the pick up perched on the side with my coffee (got to have some comforts out in the night) and archer i kept looking around, well just 2 sips into my coffee and there a fox coming in to the call like ive never seen before, it was like a wippet, i emptied my hands of archer and coffee and swapped them with the rifle, lamp on and woooo !!!!!! brakes went on the fox that quick i sware i saw dust coming up, i turned on the spot and went off back as quick as it came in, i could see it all through the scope tracking it, hoping it would stop for a last look round, i gave it a yell before it got to the hedge, that didn't work, and well what do you know, it made the usual mistake. you got it one last look back-- BANG One dog and a Vixen, the vixen just showing signs of expecting, very late this year. Dougy
well done and you never spilled your coffee Thats worse than missing the Fox Thanks chaps, i also took a couple of bunnies at some way off just before packing up. That NM800 is a decent bit of kit to have (green pill),far less trouble than the 170 i had on before, trailing cables, battery clucking about in the back, or weighing you down. I cut some lambs up for the farmer and the plucks ive put in a plastic tub, drilled a load of holes in the top one in the bottom and buried it out in one of the fields up to the top and covered it in turf and rocks, that should get them interested, thats were the rabbits ended up too.
