malkiserow
Does anyone use a, hand held, night vision spotter to avoid flicking a red light all over the place then, when the fox is in range, flick on the gun mounted red led to shoot? What works for you guys?
Grandalf
Yes I do - I have a Bresser monocular that I bought on PW for £50. Lamp is a Lightforce 140 with I/R filter mounted on an old camera mount. Works well. Eyes to 400 yards - identify at 250. For shooting I use a Cluelight Predator rifle mounted lamp or my Ward-D-Vision NV.
kent
I know a few who use NV for spotting and a conventional light to shoot, makes a lot of sense really. To much of a skinflint to fork out just yet on such kit personally, its coming down in price and up in quality every day
Grandalf
That's the way I did it for years. You can sit there in the dark. Squeak old Charlie to where you want him. Light on and bang. Makes the whole job very easy.
jimmyb79
Yep, I use a thermal imaging monocular to spot then lamp to shoot.
wymberley
Yes. I use an old ATN Voyager. If it's really dark then I mount a Cluson GL4 fitted with an IR filter on to the X Trail roof rail cross rail mounting point which lets you see for several hundred yards. If, on the other hand you are able to get your sticky little fingers on a Surefire Hellfighter with the IR filter, you can see into the next county. Paul223
Myself and magman have had some success using the archer for spotting & identifying, then using an amber light to shoot, no light flicking about to alert mr fox
Redgum
I use a pulsar R750 and NM800 with red pill on rifle, find it easier to shoot with a lamp in the field with nothing hindering the normal day scope set up. If I'm in the highseat for pigs then I use my ns200, I need ta have my reading glasses on to use that set up which is less than ideal when walking around. The R750 is also great for deer counts at night with the NM800 IR attached to extend the range.
