mr_magicfingers
I put a squirrel feeder up in our woodland a few weeks ago, the squirrels seem to be ignoring it. It's filled with peanuts and I put peanut butter on the platform. They didn't touch it. If I put peanuts on the platform they get taken but they don't appear to be opening it to get at all the ones inside. They can see them as it's a perspex front. I know they're around as I have a trail camera set up and have loads of shots of the squirrels running around at the foot of the tree, just not going to the feeder it would seem. Strange. Any suggestions of what I can do to get them interested?

Catweazle
Do you have red squirrels in Devon ? If not, I think that must be a bird feeder, so consider yourself lucky the greys are ignoring it.
mr_magicfingers
Nuts are just standard peanuts Haven't seen any reds, don't know if there's any in the area. Feeder was built the way folks on here have described so it should work. No idea how birds would get into it, although they could be taking the ones left on the platform. CharlieT
Prop the top open so they can find them and get used to feeding from it. The squirrels, like the people, are a bit thick in Devon !!
la bala
I would try it on a different tree
mr_magicfingers
Propped the top open this evening when I went down there. Will see how that works, if not then I'll move it and try again. Thanks.
Cottonseed
Prop the top open so they can find them and get used to feeding from it. The squirrels, like the people, are a bit thick in Devon !! You beat me to it! I'd've suggested thick squizzers as I'm not a Devon man so wouldn't have risked any human comparisons!
