fenboy
After shooting a few pigeon yesterday afternoon I put them in a tray out in the garage where it is nice and cool , the tray was up off the floor on top of my pigeon freezer. When I lifted the tray off this morning I noticed a neat pile of feathers , further inspection revealed that 4 of the pigeon have had their necks eaten through leaving their heads only attached by skin, I found some stripped pieces of neck vertebrae in the tray. Any idea what might have eaten them ? I am thinking a shrew . Edited April 16, 2014 by fenboy
malantone
sounds like you`ve got rats get the poison out.
fenboy
sounds like you`ve got rats get the poison out. Pretty sure its not a rat , I have only had rats once in the 15 years I have lived here and they would shred the dustbin bags , I have the bags out in the garage and they have not been touched , no droppings either , I also have several mouse traps set in there but not had one go off for weeks. unclestuffy
I have had mice eat the fleshy part of a pheasant wing before....... could it be mice?
shootnfish
Mice i reckon, had the same happen put a couple of mouse traps down and caught mice not house mice but wood mice. Doubt its rats as a rat probably would drag them out the trays.

spinach
Rats often seem to open things up at the neck. I'd say Rats but you normally have more signs ,greasy paths and big droppings. John.
