A Happy 300m shot

Took a little visit to the range to try out some new hand loads

Thought might as well start at 300m, after a few sighting shots to adjust the zero from its 200m setting we were onto a winner.

General group had a couple of flyers but was well chuffed with a 5 shot 1" group- fluke or what ?

Savage 110BA in .300Win Mag firing Sierra 220HPBT, Federal Magnums primers and Vihtavuori 170 powder

Now many may think this is nothing special but to me it's like winning the Lottery.

Next stop 600m :-)

Thanks Flynny

Don't normally get excited like that- but wanted to try the challenge of longer distances.

God knows how they shoot 1200m- must be one hell of a big target? ( if so where can you buy them? Bisley? Am there week after next)

Strangely with the load your on you should do fine at 1200 its a lot to do with confidence getting a 300 yard 5 shot group under 1" at first go is great, I bet you didn't see it happening, coz most will bottle it. Indeed I fully expect you will get sub 15" and maybe better at 1200 if you shoot as well

Kent

Your right, didn't notice the group- just placed the Hairs in the same spot

Drove up to the target and thought, "well they're not on the white, so either missed or in the black"

thought as much  the rifle is only starting to get into its groove at 300 but most shooters confidence have lost all real confidence in a 1" group (tip: the gun don't know what your thinking :good: )

V proud, doubt I will replicate it?

Will be honest and say although the grouping was as described they were 3" high and 1" left of centre--- didn't dare do any more scope adjustments after that.

Next time will see if it was a fluke and do the required adjustments. Good old mr Sightron did well.

Will need to revist the reloading bench soon, have always used the Sierra 220's since I purchased the rifle but thinking of some A-Max's in 178gr to see if I can achieve the same results

What got me most was Target inspection.

Walked the distance a few times but others who were shooting just 100m were having to wait a long time for me to get there and back ( tried jogging it but to unfit )

Took the Navara in the end, first proper off reading I ever done with the thing since I purchased it five years ago!

Seeing the target at 300m, naked eye off course you can see but can't imagine shooting without optics though

You see the mental doubt is already creeping in now! Last thing I should be doing is messing with that load. Doping the shot spot on and getting a group are separate skill sets
