Out Thursday for what might be the last day put of the 2013/14 fallow season.

I have a great farmer who goes out his way to help. Without him I would be stuffed a lot more.

This one stepped out for me, not to far from the motor but I did have a fence to get over.

Shot it at 100 meters off the quad sticks. M595 with 85gr up her 6mm tube. Very lucky with this one as they run at the slightest thing. This one jumped into the field and the walked 50 metres towards me. Nose in air sniffing. The wind then was from me to he.thought it was a no go at one point as if made its way up back towards the wood. It stopped just at the point where I had climbed over earlier, so I think it must have been smelling that.

Just as I was thinking on how It was going to be a long drag for me, as I couldn't lift over the fence, the farmer rings, he phoned earlier to got out stalking but then cancelled as I was on the way over, I dropped into another area instead. Farmer asked where I was and that he was on his way over to help. He is a top guy and seams to have taken me under his wing.

Pulls up in the landrover, picks carcuss up, over the fence and into the back of his motor. Out to the road to my car. Like it was no effort.

This gave me a chance test the hoist I had made for the back of the car. Worked very well so in all a good day.

125lb in the larder so freezer full for BBQ season.

Out of interest, the 85gr bullet did not leave the body. The skin stopped the exit. Just as well I'm going to reload on 100gr for the deer now as I don't like a none exit.

The retrieved bullet was 42gr so I've 50% lost. I will still use the 85gr as in use the rifle with NV on the foxes. I don't like leaving a fox rifle in the car while stalking so easier to use one rifle and carry 2 loads. To far to go change the rifles as well.

Not a bad year for me really. Been out with a few decent guys, guided for a few as for them to get on there first fallow. Also meet up with a great farmer that can't do enough to help.

Thanks guys,

All the best

Phil

I'm taking that last of what's in the freezer to a old friend that's in a bad place with the c word so a top up needed.

This farmer has asked for very little in return. I have been out stalking all over the place with him and as yet he has only pulled the trigger once. I have had more than enough, so next time he asks me to go I might just for get my gun and get him to shoot. As they say, look after your farmers.
