Lampwick
Hi folks, any ideas for free software to help manage my accounts and invoicing etc? I'm looking for something a burk can use which is also secure and not full of adverts/pop ups etc. Or is it best to buy a programme such as Sage? Cheers
mpk
I also would like to know if anyone knows of anything (hope you don't mind me commenting)
Thunderbird
Much may depend on whether you're talking about lots of little transactions, or fewer larger ones. Excel is actually quite a powerful tool if you know the ins and outs of it. A friend of mine's wife knocked me up a simple Excel program which would feed by way of mail merge into invoices, I haven't quite got hang of using it properly, but I know it's theoretically possible if you know someone who can do it for you. Might save you splashing out on a dedicated package?

rectifier
i used wave accounting, its free and pretty good imo. You can add your bank account to it and email invoices, create lines of credit or custom invoices etc You can also add your logo to the invoices you send out and keep a track off all your accounts for year end etc. Heres the link https://www.waveapps.com Also gocardless is a way to cheaply take payments or setup installments. Cheers Steve I've used sage accounting before, but i personally found wave accounting easier to use. ...also, you can keep a track of your accounts on your iPhone and login to it from anywhere. If you go mobile then you can send invoices from anywhere you have an internet or 3g connection (4g if you are lucky!)

rectifier
mines been active for about 3 years now and I've not paid anything for it or had any time limits etc. Its all online based and is free hence you need to setup a login. Its worth checking and and seeing what you think, personally i think its great and has saved me a lot of time and hassle, especially with work on the road I've been able to do the invoicing there and then. if you click 'Get Wave' it takes you to this link https://my.waveapps.com/register/ which lets you setup an account and have a play round with it. Hope that helps All the best Steve
rectifier
another thing you may find useful if you take card payments is an izettle https://www.izettle.com/GB or sum up https://sumup.co.uk Theres a version to plug into your iPhone or android so you can take payments anywhere as well

Lampwick
Food for thought do far. Must admit I'm still a bit worried about security! Haven't had a look at the link yet. I will look tomorrow as I'm into my fourth beer! Cheers
JustJon
Ask your accountant what cloud service he can link in to - makes the end of year costs much lower!

Splashy
Just had a look at Wave, does look good. Was slightly worried when I got to the connect your bank account page and it asks for your membership number, passcode etc, etc. I am worried because even with all this information they cannot connect to my account without the pin card reader jobbie, so why ask for this information. I know I could try it out, and maybe it's legit but handing over these details to a website I know nothing about is not something I would do lightly. Think I will look at it more without connecting my bank account. Thanks for the heads up on this, hopefully it will be great.
rectifier
No probs at all guys, hope it works for you. You can try it out without connecting it to your bank account, create invoices etc so that it just mirrors your bank account without connecting into it. There are some forums for wave which its probably worth asking on or emailing wave to satisfy yourself about the security of it all. Im satisfied that with cloud based security its up to the job, but best to make sure you are 100% happy with it before connecting it to your bank account.
