activeviii
Had a phone call from licencing asking if I can get land forms signed within the force area. I have submitted the co-term renewal 7 weeks ago. Runs out next week. On Friday I was asked to get land owner to fill in paperwork as the land I submitted was out of the force area and would take longer to check as it was checked a number of years back and needs checking again and because of this it would hold up the process. New one on me about rechecks. My ticket is open. The farmer has a rifle as well so are they trying to tell me that he shouldn't be holding the rifle on the land? Thoughts? steve_b_wales
There should be a record somewhere with details of the land that was checked a few years ago. Also, as you have an open ticket, there should be no need to get the land checked again.
mossy835
if you have a open ticket, you can shoot any where as long as you think safe,
Kes
if you have a open ticket, you can shoot any where as long as you think safe, You still need a base permission to provide 'good reason' and to be suitable for your largest calibre of rifle. You should ask them for a section 7 permit and stick with the land you want as your 'good reason'. You are not to blame for this and should only compromise if you wish to. Beware though that the land needs to be suitable for your largest rifle or there will be another problem.
activeviii
Land is cleared and the land owner shoots up to .308 so that's covered. Land has been checked else he wouldn't be able to hold rifle on there. Think I will ring Monday and ask more questions. Something to do with cross boarder checks holding my renewal up

Ask them how long a delay is there with cross border checks the other way. I know no-one wants to poke and prod the police over firearms but you are paying ( in part ) for a service. A section 7 permit extending your right to hold firearms should not be a problem, except they show up on police stats and they tend to avoid them. Ask your questions but make sure you know more than they do before you ask, I think the police respect responsible shooters who know their onions ! ATB. simon1979
hi there, all of my is under a different police force, its no great problem, apart from as they say, it takes longer as they have to deal with another police force to check the land etc,
HDAV
Basically sounds like the force for the permission area don't want the cost of doing a land check, I don't believe this is grounds for refusal to renew..... Section 7 is the answer but is limiting unless you have another suitable perm in the area

Kes
Deershooter that is really interesting - so you dont have a base permission that provides "good reason" ? If thats the case then no-one would need land to ask for a firearm just a good reason, perhaps 'pest control' - I find that a little unlikely - I presume your an open cert holder and so land anywhere you shoot just has to be 'with permission of the landowner' the suitability is down to you as with all open certs.
