turbo33
Having mulled it over for a while and doing the inevitable internet research, I treated myself to a Yukon photon nv unit. I spoke with a chap from Redbeck shooting supplies on Thursday 1.30pm. Very cheery and helpful with advice and due to their efficient service, it was in my greasy mitts Friday lunchtime At the same time Thursday, I ordered off the bay a T20 ir from a chap who has a youtube channel on it, and with the same warp speed service, that arrived Friday I popped it on the Airwolf and after 10 mins it was zero'd out at my usual 38 yards. Bit weird in the daylight as the image is black and white and grainy, which as its a nv unit, is to be expected. When it was dark, I went out again to give it a more comprehensive fiddle. The inbuilt IR is a little inadequate when you get out to 30 odd yards, but switching on the T20, unbelievable. It removes the grain and sharpens the image perfectly With the crops so high on my farms now, the rabbits are enjoying a bit of a respite. The farm I thought I would nip off to for an hour last night only had a small paddock that didn't have cattle on it, and as they all stampeded over to say hello in the other fields I looked at , I thought my only chance was the paddock. A few rabbits ran for the hedges as I approached. So I made my way to a big oak in the middle. It was too dark at this point to see anything other than a bit of movement which caught my eye. I turned the photon on and the image was amazing. Through the scope I could clearly see mr bunny, who was completely oblivious to my presence. Just as I was lining up to take the shot, another came into view. I took him first. The original one, didn't even look up, so the AA heavy took him out too. Then in a matter of moments another casually appeared midst the two in less than a minute. It completely ignored the other two and started grazing, so I added him to the tally. What really surprised me is how different the behaviour was with the nv. In daylight, its nigh impossible to shoot this paddock as the rabbits are really jumpy and scoot for cover. If you do manage to shoot one, the rest will avoid coming out for the foreseeable future. With the NV its almost as if they can't see at night So its a massive thumbs up for the Yukon Photon Sorry, the bunny picture is a bit rubbish as it was dark and the phone doesn't have NV Edited June 1, 2014 by turbo33

turbo33
Well done a nice couple of rabbits how far can you see with the nv i was thinking at looking at one for my 243 I'll need to do a more comprehensive test on it to know. One of my gamekeepers has put one on his 243. He has fitted the doubler on it. I was there the other day when he was zeroing it. In daylight, it was easy enough for him to do a basic zero at 100 yards in a 2" group. He was then going to fine tune it after dark. I had a look through and from the mag point of view it was fine for foxing. As far as the illumination is concerned, not sure about how far the T20 will go, but there are other choices if that's not enough. Do a search on youtube. There's some good info there
