Few questions regarding B725

I've seen a Browning 725 32" sporter for sale, the first 32" in the country apparently. Any common faults with these???

The gun handled beautifully in the shop and fitted very comfortably in the shoulder, and was told by the shop man that it fitted well. Should be having a go with the gun at a clay ground over the weekend!!

The owner shoot's at my clay's club and owns a gun shop/gunsmith. The gun is roughly 1 year old, and accordingly shot 15000 (ish) shot's. Is this something to worry about, is this a bit excessive??? The gun still felt pretty tight, and closed nicely!

What would you value the gun at roughly???

I have not put that may shots through mine, not by a long way, but I have not had any problems in the 14 months I have had my current 725.

BUT I did have to have my first one replaced under warranty with a manufacturing fault. That was done without quibble.

They vary in some ways from the BX25s that went before, but share many of the same features which have made those predecessors (and Mirokus) reliable over many years.

Cheers

Rich

I been using my friends because my 692 is broken again

I must say its really nice, it seams light compared to my beretta even though its similar in weight

He,s had know problems with it what so ever, and keeps reminding me everytime the 692 plays up :)

Well just to add. I shot the browning over the weekend, the gun shot very nicely, didn't feel long at all, and balanced perfectly very so slight in front of the hinge.

My only worry was that the gun did feel a little loose (compared to one which had shot roughly 2000 shots) and some of the bluing had disappeared at the muzzle (possibly due to being shot so much/ or overheating 'CORRET?") but the gunsmith says that he'll re do the end of the muzzle if i bought the gun

Should i be worrying, or am i going over the top?

The gun is actually 20 months old, and up for sale for £1200 (might be able to lower that a little). What do you guys think?

Advice would be much appreciated!!!

+there should be plenty more life in the gun yet? (shouldn't there)

also anyone know if the browning 10 year guarantee/warranty is transferable?

Should i spend 200 or 300 more on a better condition gun?

BOund to be looser than one thats done 13k less carts............. as long as it is still tight and your happy having it reblued (bluing isn't permanent and does need redoing from time to time) or the equivalent discount if you like the way it shot and the can afford it why not buy it? YOu certainly wont see another at that price............ probably for a long while!

Cheapest 725 on GT is £1295 cheapest 32" is £1500

So it is priced well

Take a look at a 525 32" sporter for £1,300 you would get a new gun.

Different gun, you can get a bettinsoli for £800...

If you can afford more then by al means buy a newer/new gun but the 725 does seem a bargain and priced to sell.

The 725 is a miles sweeter gun than any of it's predecessors. The 525 maybe inexpensive but it's a 50 year old design closely based on a 90 year old design.

I wouldn't worry about the relative looseness, Brownings always go sloppy and it's not a problem. However the bluing would be my concern because it shouldn't show wear, even at the muzzles if the gun has been well cared for. I have a 36 year old cheap Spanish trap gun with countless 1000s through it and the blue is still pretty good. The dealer can only patch it up with cold blue which will show and won't be as durable as the original bluing.

Personally, I would pay a couple of hundred more for a pristine 725 because the bluing would always irritate me, but if you're okay with it the price seems right.

Whilst I tend to like 'new' things mostly because then I have no doubt on the history, that is a reasonable price for a used 725. (There were very few S/H 725s when I bought mine)

If you bought it, and did not like it you would not lose mega-bucks if you had to sell it or swap it.

If you bought it, and fell in love, then again you could always trade up to a newer, or higher grade (black, or grade 5) when the funds allow, without losing too much.

It is difficult to judge the condition, but for one man a 'loose action' may be 'just broken in nicely' for another - I know my new 725 is quite stiff on the opening, compared to the 20yr old beretta I swapped it for, which fell open nicely, but I would not have described as loose.

Right then guys, thanks for the advice but have decided not to go for the gun, as a little concerned about the bluing etc and have been advised by many people not to go for the 32" barrels. As i loved the 725 to shoot, so I will definitely be on the look out for a nice second hand one but with 30" barrels (give me a shout if anyone knows of one)

If anyone would like detail about where to find the gun please post on here and i'll PM you!!

So if anyone knows of a 30", then please let me know

Out of interest, why did people suggest not to get 32" given your own findings that it did not feel long and balanced perfectly?

Good luck with your search.

I think as the club where i mainly shoot has many fast clays and was advised that it would be hard work to use the gun.

As i didn't have any experience of a 32" (and didn't want to make a expensive mistake), and took the advice from several experienced people!

Barrel length envy! :) Just Kidding!

I can only speak as I find, and certainly I do not find my 32" 725 to be hard work. Having moved from a 28". BUT you will find a better pool of 30" 725s to buy from! There are more about.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well cheers guys for all the advice. I planned to go and see that privately advertised 725, but didn't manage to get the time. But luckily I stumbled across a local dealer which had a very good condition 525 sporter, which when handling just felt right in the shoulder and fitted nicely. Very nice / good grain grade 1 wood!

The gun is roughly a 2004/5 model, will check when buying by using the serial number.

And to be honest, i think a little bit of a steal at £750!! (can't find one anywhere on the internet for as much)

The only shame about the gun is that it has the invector chokes, would have liked to have the plus ones! But in extremely happy, and should be picking it up tomorrow night

I'm considering on buying some teague chokes for the gun, ideally 3/8. but unsure weather to get extended of flush fit, what would you advise on???
