NickB65
I just went to me local shooting shop to buy some ELEY rim fire ammo and was told the factory has been shutdown due to health and safety issues and RIME FIRE ammo is not being produced at present..... Anyone else heard this? I purchased some Fiocchi ammo instead...... I guess it all goes bang.

kent
I shouldn't read to much into that if its even true (which I actually doubt). I once closed an entire workplace down because a doctor thought I might have contracted Legionella there (turned out I had something else equally nasty but not as contagious or linked to air con)
NickB65
As the good wife washed all my shooting clothes last night I decided to do some testing of the .22LR ammo. I shot the Winchester SUBHP at 100m to practise some long shots and then practised using the sticks and then compared the Fiocchi with the Winchesters. The first picture is of the 100m shots with the Winchesters. Group 1 were the zero in group and given the range and cross wind from left to right I was not that displeased. Group 2 and 3 were better but still not close. Group 4 was me taking time, really concentrating on stability, smooth pull of the trigger and the grouping was much better. The exercise was more about grouping than hitting the target. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45880181/IMG_0553.jpg The conclusion is that under less than perfect conditions shooting .22lr at 100m is not that ideal..... Then I decided to compare the Fiocchi with the winchester. This was done at 70m my normal zero. I shot the target top right first and was surprised the grouping was so loose. The second group was bottom right and better. I then switched to the Fiochhi for the middle target and then top left and then bottom right. The target bottom right was partly obscured by stubble but I think you will agree the Fiochhi seems to group a little better. The coin in the middle is a 1p coin to show scale. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45880181/IMG_0555.jpg I then did some shooting from the sticks with old beetroot on traffic cones at 50m and I must admit the effect of a .22lr hitting beetroot is rather dramatic. Sadly it is hard to video with the iPhone and shoot so maybe I will try this again tonight as I continue the comparison. kent
Winchester used to be my third choice of .22 until I had a batch that mostly wouldn't fire from the first box of the brick. Nothing wrong with gun (rims all out of spec). SK, RWS, Eley now in order
NickB65
Nick, try some RWS and then some Eleys.........think you might be surprised TURBO - I tried RWS and found them to be inconsistent in my rifle. I wanted to try ELY but they seem to be hard to get hold of. The gun dealer had these FIOCCHI and the gunsmith said a lot of people preferred them which why I was happy to try them. Will get a 100 of ELY when I can find them to compare. still got some RWS left which will be a reserve ammo

RWS and Eley still cloverleaf. 100 yards, RWS just fell apart, Eleys less than a 10p group with several touching Guess which ones I'm sticking to
