Yes, but not much used as not what the HMR is really all about. Why did you want one?

Semi Auto 17HMR is no longer available world wide because of issues, but it was never a legal action/available in this country anyway!

Not strictly true. My brother in law enquired about a .17hmr semi-auto last time his FAC was up for renewal (about 6months ago). Although it was just an enquiry and not an application, the FAO said there was no reason a semi-auto .17HMR could not be granted.

Why anyone would want, or need one is a difderent matter though....

I think the FEO needs to look at the Firearms Acts, unless something very strange is happening in Scotland the HMR in Semi Auto has never been legal here!

You can only get .22lr or WMR in Semi!

:good:

PS

They are no longer made either which would present an additional problem!

It actually only quotes a .22 SHELL. There is no mention of calibre regarding the actual bullet itself. This is the debate in which resulted in the enquiry.

Have just done a quick investigation online.....

Turns out we are both right (but im wrong). A .17HMR was legal in semi-auto format, but the law was changed to specifically exclude the .17 as a semi auto after the terrible events in Cumbria a few years ago. The wording of the Firearms act has not been changed though.

Is that true? Didn't know that. I would love to know the reasoning behind that if true.

Remember that semi autos were legal prior to the ban. After the ban all semi autos were banned except the .22rf. This, of course, occurred prior to the introduction of the .17hmr, therefore the hmr was not included in the act as a permitted rf as it had not been invented.

Ah, of course. Hungerford was prior to the advent of .17HMR; makes sense now. It was the reference to the shootings in Cumbria which threw me . Thanks for that. :good:
