oh_chunky_one
I already own pump chambered 3" but I was hoping to invest in a new 12bore for the upcoming wildfowl season, I've got a price range of about £400 either new or used makes no difference. Also I was hoping to pick up a semi. I was just wondering if it's worth forking out the extra and going to 3.5" chambers, although I've heard they tend not to cycle lighter loads as well. What do you guys shoot on the marshes and what inch chambers etc? If I stick with the pump or do end up buying a new gun, are you guys find of any particular carts in either 3/3.5"? Thanks for the advice PS. I will probably use the new addition all year round for most game too!
ayano3
Depends what you term as wildfowling really. For the marsh I would choose the 3 1/2. I have an sx2 and now a sx3 too. I use remington sportsman steel and eley llightnings. Both guns cycle 28g 7.5 without any problems. I use them on pigeons but wouldn't use for game. Aya no4 for that. Hope this helps. Big Mat
Last season, the few duck and geese i shot where done so with a 3" gun using steel, apart from one canada that fell to a 2 7/8" 10 bore load. This season i will be shooting mainly 3" 12 again with a few 3 1/2"
figgy
I have a 3 12" chambered SX3 and use a lot of 3" carts but do use dozens of 3 1/2" bbs for geese. I would always go for the bigger chamber as it will shoot light loads. You get the choice to shoot what you want. You can get a Hatsan extreme for that money but a little more should get you a nice used SX3 Figgy
Guest cookoff013
As a home loader, 3 inch is just enough. 3.5 for serious steel goose loads. Spend a little more on nontoxic HD shells, then the 2.75" shell are more than adequate
oh_chunky_one
Thanks for the responses! Will have to have a little look and see why I can pick up then! Payday can't come round again soon enough!
fenboy
Better to go 3.5 and not use it than 3 and find you could have done with 3.5 , never had a problem cycling lighter loads with my 3.5 Depends what you term as wildfowling really. mikejt
I use a hatsan escort, lower end of the market costing around £350 new but comes with 3 year Edgar brothers warranty and I've never had a problem with it, a few lads at my club use them and have done for many years

oh_chunky_one
Decided today to start off with a smaller budget, and scored a bargain hatsan. 3.5" chambers, semi, in camo. I've never shot or owned a semi before so If all goes well this season, I may invest in a nicer bit of kit for next year. Just need to save up for the carts now, not as cheap as thought! Haha. Thanks for the advice people!
