Raja Clavata
The PW Sportive, anyone? @ Raja - You'll be all right when it's in your tail. Sounds good to me. If you use Strava I'm "Michael Welsh" from "Havering Atte Bower". I'm also a member of Romford CC who are a cracking bunch of boys and girls. Penelope
Popped in there for lunch yesterday with the GF before going to check the feed and water for the pheasants, had a very nice Weston's Perry and a lovely bacon, mushroom and melted cheese huffer and a pint of this afterwards http://www.perfectpint.co.uk/real-ale-beers-info/2818/Crouch-Vale-Brewery/Essex-Boys-Best-Bitter. It's a very popular proper pub. margun
The 100miles "for fun" ride on Sunday. Not the pro race although aiming for a pretty good time. Thank-you. Cycling 100 miles!? I can't be bothered to drive 100 miles!
Dunkield
Hope the weather wasn't too bad this morning, I was there is spirit - honest. I even cooked a batch of GCN Power Bars this morning as a mark of respect I will eat one whilst watching it on the telly later. Be interested to see how you all faired in the less than perfect conditions.
Raja Clavata
4:12:27 for me without incident or accident. Felt a bit deprived missing out on the hills due to the shortened route, probably for the best though as I spotted at least six people on the deck on the way round. Felt strong towards the end and even finished with a decent sprint up Pall Mall, my moment of glory even if there were so few spectators at 11am. Also got to meet some of the kids related to the charity I rode for - that was very touching. Next year, weather permitting, I will go for a time as I took it pretty steady for most of the route yesterday. A colleague of my wife was not so lucky, she crashed and is having shoulder surgery this afternoon. Not nice. PS - the weather was awful. The earlier starters had it better than the rest, standing water got ridiculous. On about six occasions it was well over the bottom bracket... Dunkield
It was touch and go whether they abandoned the whole event according to the commentary on the telly. Well done for toughing it out, I wonder how many didn't start or abandoned? Presumably the organisers will have those numbers.
Penelope
Not a bad time at all Raja given the conditions. makes my 3:48 and seconds for the London-Southend look tame (I did have a couple of water stops though) Heard on the news last night that one guy died of a heart attack whilst on route, only young too. 4:12:27 for me without incident or accident. Thanks, yeah, yesterday was all about getting round safely. Did you do the standard route on the London to Southend or the extra 15 mile loop? We did the long one and wind along the sea wall followed by the up-hill at the end was a real slog. Very sad news about the poor chap who passed.
