ChrisAsh
Just brought a wabbitbosher special and well pleased, the bores look brand new and the gun very tight Have given a good clean and oil which has eased up the working bits that were also stiff, think it had not been used for a number of years Back to original question regarding the block quite well engraved but very dirty and need to know what to use to clean up with, but please dont tell me steel wire as I hate the stuff and consider it should be never used near a gun except when the wood neads to be dimmed and its off the metal
JohnfromUK
Entirely agree on steel wool. Little bits break off and get everywhere. What about a solvent cleaner like Gunk - used with a rag?
wraivi
Buy an aerosol can of brake and clutch cleaner, the pressurised blast will help, and get a small brass bristle suede brush or a stiff toothbrush and work in the cleaner. Wipe dry with a soft cotton cloth. Ideally remove the stock too, so you can blast the action and then re lubricate as required.

I would remove the wood anyway if using brake and clutch cleaner just in case it does anything to the finish. I have used several brands of brake cleaner and each one seems to have it's own formulation so it's difficult to know what will happen to laquer and oils finishes. JohnfromUK
Green nylon 'Scotchbrite' can also be useful
steve_b_wales
If the block is chrome, them Autosol (Solvol) from Hallfords would be an excellent choice. http://www.halfords.com/motoring/cleaning-products/polish-wax/autosol-metal-polish-75g
