30-6
I have a fettish for binoculars, and have many pairs, all are cheapies and different sizes / magnification. Yesterday, i found a pair in my "man" cupboard, still boxed and unused. I bought them many years ago at a game fair at a reduced price sold as ex-display. They have red objective lens, and are marked 12 x 50 IR. Does this mean they will see an ir light, or what purpose does the red lenses give ? The make is INPRO i think. spinach
Anti UV coated lenses are often red. No idea what IR means. Are they any good? John.
LPJA
IR could stand for infra red or illuminated reticle, not sure why either would be on some binoculars though. Maybe its something else, would be nice to find out
30-6
When used in daylight they are just like a normal set of binoculars to look through. Perhaps they are some sort of anti - glare coating. I have some home made ir filters that i tried on one of my Deben lamps, i'll give it a try to see if it does pick up the ir beam, which is unseen by the naked eye, but my guess is some sort of coating for sunshine as suggested. Dougy
Inpro bins, I doubt they'll be in the price bracket of being able to see ir. It will be a brand name, something to do with the red coating you can see.
