silver pigeon 3
You are going to be restricted to bismuth, hevi shot or tungsten. Hevi shot are 32g 4's @ £56 for 25 Bismuth are 36g 3's @ £51.75 for 25 Tungsten are 36g 3's or 1's and are £76 for 25 Are you decoying the geese or flighting them? As this will influence your cartridge choice. Any non toxic which is not steel carrys a huge price tag.
hunting
decoying then shooting on ponds
silver pigeon 3
The bismuth 3's will do the job on decoyed geese, you can then drop to 5's for duck over the ponds. Failing that try to borrow a different gun and shoot steel! Edited August 17, 2014 by silver pigeon
kiffy
at those prices it would be cheaper to buy a second gun, a nice used escort or something similar thatll take big steel carts and not cost that much

My god I actually recommended a hatsan , I am now off to beat myself !

Surely if a gun is capable of dealing with hevi, it can also use steel.

Surely if a gun is capable of dealing with hevi, it can also use steel. Looking at the lyalvale site the 34g is only for use through hp steel proofed guns but the 31g and 26g don't show the same warnings. Also in the pinned steel shot topic in the wildfowling section of PW the 2nd generation hevi shot is Ok through all guns (posted and verified by David from BASC)
figgy
Use bismuth, plenty about in size five for duck drives and threes for geese. Or do as others have said get a steel proofed gun. If you don't want a cheap semi auto there are some cheap camo wildfowl over and unders for sale in the Sportsmans Gun Centre. Figgy

kiffy
that revo looks perfect for the job and at a price thats not a huge worry on the foreshore but beware revo, the spare parts should anything go wrong are virtually non existant and even one well respected employee of sportsmans that i know wouldnt touch them... on sayiong that my mate has a .410 revo and its lovely
figgy
To be honest for nearly £450.00 you can buy a very good second hand Wildfowling semi auto. But some don't like them and prefer OU. If I was looking for a cheap goose gun for steel I'd buy a Ten bore and use Gamebores Rhino steel. Some cheap tens online. Figgy
propercartridges
I think the best goose shooting cartridge is the one you hit it with
