ayano3
Well I've done it now. Finally jet washed 2 years mud off my thigh boots today. Maybe they will leak now. Washed the old game bag too, it's been done before but not for many years. I have had that bag for well over 30 years and I guess it's due a second wash. That was given to me by my mentor "the pied piper". I have sorted the cartridges a bit, didn't realise I had accumulated over 100 various steel loads. Both winchester autos (sx2 and sx3) both stripped and clean. Put a few early season essentials in the ex army bergen. First to go in was the Avon skin so soft followed by bite ease. The wash mosquitos are hungry this time of the season. I have even signed my membership form this year. Is everyone else ready ??
oxfordfowler
OMG Graham - what have you done, How are we going to recognise you now . What ever you do don't change your jacket all the years worth of coffee/food stains down the front could never be replaced.
ayano3
It's a good job the cabelas is easy to clean and waterproof. I was going to wash it but can't see the point if it's waterproof. Her indoors may just moan at the mud clogging up her washing machine. fenboy
I would imagine the game bag was fairly clean on the inside I am all ready apart from waiting delivery of some new chest waders , plenty of cartridges in stock , dog perfectly trained
ayano3
I may need to just chop the old green waterproof trousers I found off at the knee for over thigh waders for when we sit in the mud. I was thinking about chest waders but I'm skint. That bag has seen a few feathers in its time. The guy who give me it is a good shot lol Edit to say that dog may just surprise you...It did last time when he thought your trouser leg needed a wash lol Edited August 17, 2014 by ayano3
Terry P
It's a good job the cabelas is easy to clean and waterproof. I was going to wash it but can't see the point if it's waterproof. Her indoors may just moan at the mud clogging up her washing machine. After a chat with an outdoor specialist I now wash my herter jacket every season, it leaked after about five years of hard fowling. He explained that the mud, sand etc wedges open the fine weave which then allows the water to penetrate the coat. After advise off here I bought some Nik wax wash, then sprayed it with nixwax reproofer and it was sweet as a nut, did the same a couple of weeks ago, for the price of about £20 its well worth the effort. ayano3
I best save that job for next summer Terry, this lot on shep's will think I'm a new member otherwise. Can you use the stuff in your washing machine without waterproofing her indoors granny pants 😂😃

figgy
Ayano3 go outdoors usually have chest waders in for around £30.00 Ron Thompson. I've had a pair fair last two seasons and there still good. Only use my Cabelas neoprene when it gets cold, couldn't carry enough water to replace the sweat when wearing them in September. Still need to locate my game bag and calls and all the rest of the stuff I left in it after last season. Got the battery chargers ready, plenty of carts. Just want my gun to turn up at dealers and all set Bought a webtex moisture wicking base layer ex mod top for this season, hope it works. ayano3
Hi figgy. I stick to thigh boots really. Easy to fold down on warmer days when on a tide. Just have old leggings cut down for sitting in the mud. I hope your new gun arrives. What are you getting ?? I've seriously moved with the times and obtained one of those plastic type sx3 guns. That's my mud gun now instead of my immaculate sx2.
anser2
I have a few days off just prior to the first day so that is when I will seriously start sorting my gear out. The gun is having its overhaul at the moment at the gunsmiths so I have to pick that up , stocked up with cartridges yesterday ( managed to get the last couple of cases of 3 inch mammoths for a very good price ) , boot and game cleamed a the end of last season so the main job will be to sort out and repaint some of the decoys and check the lines. Also got some flightlines to check on ,but the first morning is already sorted. Last season I found a large dyke where 50 odd mallard were spending the day on after a night on the stubbles. Last season it produced 5 mallard and a gadwall on the first seasons mornng flight. A mate checked it out the other day and there were quite a few duck in the same spot so decoying the dyke again is the plan for the first morning this year. The tides are wrong for most of he first week on the shore on my marshes so will be spending the first few flights inland. But the second week looks a lot more promising with some good tides on the foreshore. Edited August 17, 2014 by anser2
figgy
Ayano3 I've just ordered the new Beretta A300 Xtrema with the old style kick off old 391 3 1/2" action with the A400 bolt piston barrel and stuff fitted. I've had a SX3 for two seasons very good gun but just never fitted me right, used the shims and spacers but still not quite right, the Berettas fit me well as I shoot a 682 Gold E on clays all year. Tried a A400 Extreme in the shop but was too expensive for me to use I the marsh then put away till next season, barring a few days out on pigeons and crows and then I prefer my clay gun, hoping this one ill use more. The SX3 is very good and reliable, easy cleaned and cycled every thing from 24g to 50g that I put throug it. But the recoil on my shoulder this year when I got it out a few weeks ago to try my new steel carts was punishing, shoulder ached the next day. Getting my gear ready is just making me more of a kid at Christmas, can't wait. Been plenty about my area and Clubs marsh. ayano3
One other piece of new equipment I have for the new season is a good addition and one all gundog owners should have. I visited a good dog trainer/breeder last weekend and he suggested using one of those microfibre car wash mitts to dry off the dog. They soak the water Dar better than towels and far easier to use. http://www.wilko.com/car-cleaning/wilko-microfibre-cleaning-glove/invt/0344799

figgy
The micro fibre towels are great for your dog but i have to pat mine dry as it takes some dragging along his fur after the marsh. He don't like it removes too much of his fur don't mind a pat, thinks he's a good lad then. Figgy
