rtaylor
As per title. When sitting out in a high seat for a fox do you guys squeak, or just sit quite and hope one comes past? I haven't got an electronic caller so I can't put one 50 yards away and use the remote.
nige123
Morning mate , I've done both but when I need to squeak I use polystyrene on a piece of glass which touch wood has worked well.save your money. Cheers and good luck
Kes
I find groaning is something I often do after the climb ! I have 2 cheep mouth calls but I would suggest a widgeon caller and a mouse squeaker of good quality, BAM also works occassionally. As mentioned polystyrene but takes 2 hands. flynny
Yes all the above and hand squeaks, just waiting is pure luck unless you know it's route and routine. If a fox is in the area they will usually respond to squeaks. I would also bait the area in front of your high seat say 80 YDS out this will also improve your chances, Atb Flynny

The Essex Hunter
For me foxes are on the move and usually on there own so I don't put any time in my 3 high seats for foxes... On foot is far more productive, For squeaking from a high seat then generally you would want the wind on your back as if it was in your face the fox would be like in the panto...............Its behind you!!! Some stats from shooting Muntjac of late....3 from high seats 9 on foot... All foxes shot on foot... TEH
al4x
I shoot a lot from high seats but by this time of year most have heard a squeak before so I stay completely quiet. Just being vigilant it's surprising how many you will shoot, though I will mostly be in spots waiting for problem ones and on nv once dark
Dead-Eyed Duck
Easiest way from a high seat is to bait - the distance of the bait from the seat determining what calibre of weapon you have. Also bear in mind the direction of the normally prevailing wind. Simply bait every night for a few days, and when the bait is regularly going sit and wait the following night for the fox to collect his takeaway. The first fox I ever shot was from a high seat - I was convinced that the fox would come from a nearby wood, and so I commenced calling looking in the direction of the wood. After 10 minutes or so I heard a noise below me, and there was a fox trotting round underneath the tree....... Carefully angling the 223 downwards I shot the fox. I was so pleased with myself I carried the fox to the farmhouse a mile away, and knocked on the door (this was at 10.30 p.m. or so), The farmer came to the door looking very bleary eyed. "George, I've shot a fox!" I said. "Well done lad" he said, and closed the door. Thankfully he was in a much better humour the following day.
