sandspider
Hi all Almost time to renew my SGC, and thought I might as well go coterminous and renew my FAC too. I've had the SGC 5 years, and the FAC around 3 years. Does anyone happen to know if A&S police open a FAC automatically on renewal? I know some forces do, but not sure if that includes A&S. I will include a letter along with the renewal stating that it's not practical to clear every bit of ground I'd like to shoot on, the mention of land clearance by police deters land owners etc. I will also ask for my ammo allowance to be increased so I can get more of the same batch for accuracy. Having said all that, if I've only had the FAC for 3 years are they less likely to open it than if I let it run for the full 5 years? I've only got one permission, and never actually applied for another, due to the aforementioned difficulties in doing so. I've probably used 2,500 plus rounds (.22lr) though I've also used a friend's .243 and various other guns in the 3 years, but am not sure if that counts as enough for them to judge me as "experienced"? Any thoughts, or experience from A&S FAC holders? Cheers.

KFC
Cambs opens automatically. Regards the co-terminous, They'll probably renew your SGC and leave your FAC to run 5 years then renew your SGC and FAC co-terminous. I would suggest that you do apply to have other permissions cleared on written permission as this would demonstrate a 'need' to have your ticket opened early. They may not open early if you only have one written permission.
sandspider
Thanks people. Will see what I can do - the trouble is I don't really have any other permissions to clear!
sandspider
Just to update - KFC is correct. I can't go coterminous with 2 years of FAC still to run, so I can only renew my SGC now. In theory when I renew my FAC in 2 years time, I will only pay the extra £10 to make it up to the coterminous fee. I fear that may not be the case once the new fees come in, but such is life. thepasty
Devon and Cornwall opened mine after I put in for my first variation (just over a year after being granted FAC), I didnt ask for it but they saw the many thousands of rounds I'd put through my rifles and saw that as experience enough. Might work in your favour.
sandspider
when are the new fees coming in, Not sure, but the consultation ends at the end of December, and BASC "hope the changes can be introduced in this parliament". (See here - http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/299293-firearms-fees-proposals-time-to-act/)In any case, probably before my FAC expires in 2017...
