timclarke
What I mean by that is that is there a semi-auto/pump/over under that will operate with any type of shotgun 12g shell inc steel shot magnums etc? Tim

Tim Kelly
If you can find a 3.5" chambered OU it will handle anything, same with a pump. Semi autos with 3.5" chambers would handle most things but tend to like 70mm cartridges or sometimes 67.5mm minimum to cycle reliably. Not ideal with very light loads or subsonics either. timclarke
Thanks Tim, appreciated. So any 3.5" is the thing to go for really?
fenboy
You will only need a 3.5 inch gun if you intend on doing some foreshore wildfowling using steel shot , other than that I cannot think of nothing else where a 3 inch chamber would not be plenty. If you are only going to shoot clays a 2 3/4 gun is all you need . Edited November 19, 2014 by fenboy
figgy
A 31/2" over and under is the only gun that will fire all 12bore carts as most 31/2" semi autos won't shoot true 21/2" carts. Figgy

Figgy Including 2"...... there are a few about browning and fabarm both do 3 1/2" OU but realistically a 3" chambered Steel proof OU will take any quarry you are likely to find. That said 3" are only really need for fowling and you can always shoot bismuth...
