Time for the tenterfield whistle.....

With the temperature starting to drop, I felt it was time to dig out my copy of a tenterfield.

Rain was forecast so I picked my favourite field and used my small light across a very wet wheat field, nothing showed so a few long blasts...bingo!! red eyes came out of a hedge some 500 yards away and were trotting my way....

My routine is quite well rehearsed with things to hand quite quickly, the wind was right so I could make some ground on my quarry..

One more check before I set the gun on the stick put me about where I wanted to be...the fox was side on looking back at me in this comfort zone they seen to have...which is around 200 yards.

A small exit hole in the shoulder and one large dog fox with only 10 minutes into the field.

Then the rain started to pick up so off home....

Thank you.....I have shot loads of foxes from this area, a dog and vixen from the self same spot not more than a couple of weeks ago.

So I guess he know took that spot, ( for a while) as you all spotted he was in very good nick and not a youngster.

The ground backs on to the farm land with lots of 4-5 acre small holdings from them to poke around in, the distance is ideal as they seem settled, also the spotting torch saves me hitting them with the main lamp until it is to late.....
