MEC Sizemaster 16 Gauge

Recommended Posts

Guys, my shooting partner who passed away in November bought one of these recently and having tried to sell many of his other items, am finding it a little harder than initially anticipated. A couple of items I have bought myself...

So what do you guys think would be a reasonable price for one of the above along with say 1000 primers, plastic wads and cases?

Thanks

Sandy

Thanks guys, I did and posted accordingly.

I have a pm too, but trying to establish a realistic price. Interestingly, I purchased his Lincoln 16 gauge o/u and like a lot of his stuff have bought it myself, paying probably over the odds as wanting his widow not to lose out. Like most things, it's the postage that the killer on heavy items.

You may be talking me into it... I see there is one just listed in the sales. Not sure what's extra for the £275 posted price.

will either order a new 600jnr in 16 gauge £170, or a conversion kit for one of my 600s or my sizemaster for £69 ,so when you eventually arrive at a realistic price I am sorted now,

Welcome to the world of reloading !

The market price is whatever someone will pay - I know as I have sold a lot of presses.

16 bore is one of the most economical to load and esp as the availability of cartridges and choice of shot size is so limited.

The last 16g mec I sold was a 650 progressive in mint condition and I think it only realised £170 delivered!

If it was 12g or 20g then it would be worth £200 to £250 but 16g is more like £150. Just my humble opinion

Thanks guys, I'm at a cross road where I have bought his 16 gauge, and trying to work out a realistic price for his used Sizemaster and consumables. I'm not wanting to pay unessecasily with my heart, if the real second hand value is £150 less postage, cos in that case I would buy it for £150, but it's going to be a shock for his widow. I've paid RFD's valuation prices for the three guns I've bought.

It's hard to separate heart from head and wallet.

A sizemaster press is about £260 new 1000 primers about £35-40 wads around £20 and cases about £50 , so around £360 to purchase new .

So I would say my initial estimate of £200 is not far off the mark.

Thanks. I have a receipt for £600 of stuff including lead shot, but lead shot alone costs a lot for individuals. Quite a few bits have been used. I'm visiting again this weekend and will discuss the press with her, it's an area I've not started to tidy & sort. I understand there should be some powder bushings for these.... It all bolted to his desk at present. So accounting for your £200 plus a few other bits such as 1 tub of sealed powder... £240? Edited by varminter pb

Lead shot is somewhere around £3.50 a kg to buy new , powder £20 -30 depending on type ( 1/2 kg ) MEC powder bushings are £4.50 each .

It soon adds up to a good bit , but if you intend to shoot a 16 gauge long term there is savings to be made , plus reloading is a enjoyable thing to do !

I enjoy reloading for my centrefires, never done shotgun cartridges, I've seen 16 gauge cartridges are a lot more expensive than 12's hence Don & many others reload.

Will see how things go at the weekend, many thanks for the posts & advice.

I am now the owner of a 16 gauge Sizemaster with gauged charge bar. It'll be a while before I can have a go at reloading as have other priorities such as helping Janet (his widow), and sorting through the remainder of his reloading room.

Thanks all for the posts, it was really difficult trying to establish a value without paying over the odds. At the same time I didn't want to pay too cheaply and cheat her...

Many thanks

Sandy

I'm sure your friend would be glad every time you use the stuff you bought off his wife you will think of him.

I will, that's why I bought his 16 gauge Lincoln o/u. Even the wife may have a go at some clays with it. She did comment how nice it was when I brought it home. She never says anything about my guns or shotguns...

Right... Been through the extra box he had tucked away.. I have come across loads of plastic wads with different numbers & references;

SG HC Cal 16

12 H22 or 422? The handwritings a bit difficult to read.

SG H21 Cal 16

Super G H18 for 28 gram lead

It looks like I've quite a bit of reading up to do.....

Anyone post please what's for what, don't worry, I won't be blowing myself up just yet as will take my time to learns what's what. And will be spring before I get everything set up and the shotties come out... 12 gauge or 16?

Counting the openend bags, there are around 3100 wads excluding those used already from the opened bags. Not looking to sell any on, but are wads cheap?
