Longstrider
Out nice and early today onto the permission and wandered in search of birds without any luck whatsoever. Settled down in a spinney and hoped for passers-by. By 1 o'clock all I'd had was a lonesome crow so I jacked and walked back to the farm buildings and my car. There, sat on the power lines above the farmhouse ... 6 woodies ! It got worse though. Drove about 2 miles coming home and the field of rape, right in the corner of a main road and the motorway, where no-one in their right mind would ever risk shooting, I could barley see the damned crop for pigeons ! It was absolutely blue with them ! Dozens more were coming to join the feast, winging in over the road. I know that even if I could have got onto that field, a quick one-two and the whole lot would have disappeared over the horizon, but come on ... Out for 5 hrs for one crow and then to see that on the way home ? They're really taking the mick now.

scottk
Same here had about 8 all afternoon , to be honest a lot more flew over but too busy gassing, then as soon as we got out of the hide 3 woodies perfect distance straight over the decoys as we were laughing, turned round and at least 200 crows coming right for our pattern. Laughing turned into tears pretty quickly...........t Edited January 20, 2015 by scottk
LiveinHope
Reminds me of the old advert for Kit-Kats. Where the photographer takes a break and turns his back on the Pandas and they start skating. Have had the same happen to me just before Christmas, 2 hours in the hide, nothing in the sky. Decide to walk up the boundaries for an hour, nothing, get back within 100 yards of the decoys and there are 20 on the deck next to the pattern. Spook them before I can get near enough, no real surprise there. But then two more hours in the hide and nothing. Did not even have a KIt Kat.
