JDog
Evenings are drawing out as they say and with time on my hands at 3:45 I flew off to a roosting wood to see if there were any pigeons using it. This is a wood that on the face of it is perfect for roosting pigeons, it is a mixture of mature deciduous trees and conifers, it is sheltered and I never shoot it more than three times a year. Yet it usually disappoints. I may have arrived ten minutes too late as 100 birds got out never to return. Conditions were blustery and no pigeon was going to be easy. Pigeons returned in ones and twos spasmodically and in an hour I shot seven. One bird had nothing in it's crop, three had rape and three had Ivy berries.
