Cleaning/breaking in new .308

Hi all,

Just bought a semi custom tikka T3 in .308 and don't know what to do in terms of cleaning and breaking in. What sort of kit do I need for cleaning and will a bore snake or pull through with a patch on the end do for the minute while I 'break it in'?

Also how do you actually break it in like shoot one shot clean it, 3 shots for 12 shots with clean every 3 shots or something?

Cheers,

Mitch

A proper bore guide and rod with good rotating handle so you follow the lands and don't just push the cleaner brushes etc. across the rifling. ...

Break in seems to be one of those things with a hate/love following .. Goog it and you'll get varying opinions ... pick which seems the most sensible and practical to you ...

Being economical I combined scope sighting and load dev with a bit off cleaning as I went along ... neither raced nor rallied but took things steady as it went along.

Sensible advice.

I'm just about to do another I will shot 1 clean for 10 rounds, then shoot 3 clean 3 times then 5 clean then 10 clean

Good cleaning rod jag and phosbrush bore guide bore cleaner ammo.

I bring the scope on at the same time slow and steady enjoying the rifle getting used to it.[/quote

Thanks everyone, I think I will be doing the 1 shot and clean 10 times, then 3 then 5 then 10 as you say. I'm aware people say cleaning does more harm than good, but as long as I'm doing it right and not ramming a steel brush back and forth I'd imagine I'll be fine? :D
