photos of shot

You can get graphite from a decent hardware shop if not perhaps off feebay. You do not need much at all or you will have it everywhere. Less than a tea spoon but depends on how much shot you have. I use a paint mixer in a cordless drill in a cylindrical tin.

What temperature were you running at and dropping the shot into (coolant)?

Graphite can be got from ebay but more easily from a locksmiths or ironmongers. I just graphited 30kg with one heaped teaspoon of it, was plenty, stirred in for maybe 10 mins with a paint stirrer in a drill with shot in a bucket. it also improves the look of the shot no end.

Dimples are from the molten shot cooling suddenly, it's only cosmetic if not too deep, just load and shoot. To try and avoid don't get the lead too hot and warm the coolant to minimise thermal shock, maybe use your imagination to find something to thicken the coolant slightly so it doesn't draw the heat so quickly.

I put Graphogen on my ramp in place of Copper-Slip but with either just use your finger to apply a thick smoothish layer which will burn off the carrier and seem like Teflon on the ramp.

Avoid draughts they will suck the heat out of the ramp and make the lead freeze on it.

If it's reasonable shot just shoot it and start again, don't be too fussy you don't have to achieve perfection from the start.

PS, your picture is **** try more up close and focussed.

That is the only thing I haven't got is a thermoter I have everything else.will get one tomorrow morning what temp do I need.thank you.

I was making 7.5shot at 350c I will make 5 shot at a little over 300c maybe warm the coolant to 20-30c and see if it helps. if lead gets too hot it will burst like popcorn and make lead wool. You will hear it crackle as it enters the coolant. I bought my thermometer with probe from Maplin but since fitting the PID don't really need to use one.

Definitely warm the coolant. I run mine a little hotter than Sits. But its dependant on how many drippers are running, ambient temps etc. Do what you can to maintain consistency with the lead and coolant and then you will have a base line to work from :good:
