Richie10
Do you guys usually buy coated steel or just steel. See they can be coated with zinc or copper.

fenboy
The coatings are really only to stop rusting and there are going to be no other real advantages . Even good quality non coated shot has a rust preventer , so unless your cartridges are going to be spending plenty of time getting wet its not worth the additional cost in my eyes , even if it was getting wet I would be more worried about the powder and primer. UK fowler
Do you guys usually buy coated steel or just steel. See they can be coated with zinc or copper. copper plate acts as a lube and can help steel shot pass through chokes better that's why air gun BBs are copper plated to stop steel on steel in rifled barrels and I disagree with the above posts I would and do pay the extra money for the plated shot . the 4.3mm copper plated B# shot sold by clay/game makes some of the best patterning loads I use and out shoots standard 4mm in most cases on the pattern plate and in the field

Big Mat
So what size steel do majority of you fellas use for duck 2 or 3 ?? For the few duck i shoot a season i use 3s. I did shoot a couple of cracking teal with an ounce of 4s last season though!

UK fowler
loading smaller than 2# in a 10g is pointless you may as well use a 12 small steel shot runs out of steam well before the pattern has failed 1 5/8th of 3# has high pellet count and no down range energy . great for pack shooting teal at 35 yds with no choke or if you are a bad shot and need the spread but for me the main point of a 10g is long range
