2 fields of peas gone in 2 days ago, there was a few on them today at 3pm, would normally give them a bit more time for the pigeon to find the fields but due to work commitments and wife commitments! Will shoot friday and see what happens

The birds seem to be very dispersed at the moment. At the weekend I shot a few and they were still on rape but today I saw about ten on some grass about five on a sewn field and some just pecking about at the top of a hedge and some more that were just out on the wider grass verges like pigeons in a park. No big amount anywhere or on anything in particular. When I drove back along the road where I had seen these birds they had all moved on except for the ten or so that were on the grass. I don’t think that I could have decided to set up decoys on any of the sewn fields and done any good. I think that you will have to do a bit of recce to see if anything is going to come onto the field and where they want to be and from which direction they approach. The only thing that I did notice was that the formation was just a group of birds wandering along like as if they were being herded along like domestic duck in a loose pack rather than a horseshoe or crescent shape.

I always do a recce a day before I shoot and will have another look tomorrow, these pea field s are on one of my perms that does provide consistent sport at this time of year there's always a good head of pigeon there with ample roosting woods, and a nice valley and stream which the birds use as a flight line for many years

that's the main things that get in the way from you having a look

I've noticed that the birds that have been packed up on the rape have been getting less and less over the last three weeks and there are as many birds hanging around the local ouse gardens as I am getting coming into roost in the wood. I hope that you have a great day out. I cant get out on friday as the wife has all of the clan coming down for the day so I have been confined to barracks. I did say that we fellows could get out from under their feet in the morning and go shoot a few clays but thats been vetoed also. roll on Saturday.

The day before I was going to shoot looked bleak, the pigeon still needed time to find the fields if at all, lots of peas on top, but we shot some spring barley and had 62 pigeon 2crows, going to have another look around beans gone in today as well as more peas! But trying to juggle it all in with work commitments is a struggle indeed

One of my perms put in peas , it took a week for the birds to find them two days to clear the ones on top after which they moved on to pastures new. so keep an eye on them or you will miss the first onslaught , thankfully pigeons like peas all the way up to harvest and a day or two after. Im just waiting for the peas to come through so I can have another go at them.
