Marksman1997
Please can someone explain to me what a ticket on a license is? Also people say "i have a free slot for centerfire rifle on license" etc. (only ever said on this forum though) and i don't know what they mean??? I live in NI so maybe it is different over here? Anyone i know in NI walks in to a gun shop and buys a gun and then sends away the forms. Pretty much always successful as long as you have reason for the stated firearm and suitable land to shoot on! robbiep
Over here we get a 'slot' - for example, when I applied for my FAC, I applied for a 22LR, moderator for same, 223 Rem, and moderator for that too. My licence (eventually) got issued, and I had the permissions to OWN those, and also (on the certificate) permission to ACQUIRE the same). Once I bought a 22LR and mod, the permission to acquire expired - it is noted on the certificate that those 'slots' has been filled. That's it really. If I sell the 22LR, I cannot just go and buy another one, as I no longer have authority to acquire. I need to write to my licencing dept, and ask for that 'slot' to be opened up again. Ticket ... licence ... certificate ... all the same.
Marksman1997
Thanks Robbie. Does that ticket thing not apply in NI?
Scully
As mentioned above, I only know of a ticket being an abbreviation of certificate and I often use the term as such.
millrace
Its the system we should have but don't.....we see a gun buy it then ask if we can have it where as in rest of UK you ask for slot then buy when u wish and take home so you could apply for 2 shotguns and 2 rifles then buy when u can...... You don't need a slot for a shotgun on the main land . We are allowed to buy as many shotguns as we wish with in reason . Only need a slot for a fire arm . Yea but i feel by buying it and then asking for it they nearly always give it to you as they can't really turn you down without very good reason once already purchased! I kinda like it! lol You don't need a slot for a shotgun on the main land . We are allowed to buy as many shotguns as we wish with in reason . Only need a slot for a fire arm . Harnser i think it's the same over here with air rifles that you are aloud as many as you want! Is that the same there also?

Is that the same there also? Yes it is . The big advantage of gun ownership in Ulster over ownership on the main land is that you are allowed to own handguns.
