Pigeon Paul
If you have never been asked for your paper counterpart (to show your convictions) then surely it is very unlikely you will require the code?? The code is only valid for 3 days. If it does expire you only require Internet access, your licence Nr, date of birth and NI number to get another. It can also be done over the phone if you don't have Internet access..... Sounds dead easy to me? Red tape or a simplified "modern" way of doing things?? grrclark
Sounds good to me, i have on a number of occasions forgotten the paper part of my license and been refused a car. Fine if during office hours and the agent can call DVLA, but inconvenient outside of that. At least this way it is 2 mins on a web browser on the phone. fortune
The RAC said many drivers were unaware of the changes. "Our research shows that with just over a month to go before the paper counterpart to the photo-card licence disappears, 55% of drivers are not aware of the planned change," said RAC spokesman Simon Williams. Too true. Neither myself or the wife have even got the plastic card licence. I've hired cars all over Europe and Ive hardly ever been asked to produce the paper one. It's fill out our form show your passport and give us yer money. If I and 55% of driver here dont know about the licence changes and most of Europe not knowing or caring. Last year out in Crete I hired a nearly new car for a week with only the minimal questions. I paid the extra to make sure that I had full + full ins cover. I wonder if any of this will change. You would think that the DVLA would email everyone that they have mail addys for to notify of the changes. Especially those of use without plastic cards. Isnt ther another thing that you have to renew the plastic card every so many years that people fall into a trap with? Blimet Red books. That goes back a bit.
