demonwolf444
I don't often post in here mainly because i have a superstition that when i take my phone with me shooting i won't see anything and therefore rarely take any pictures. Oddly i have a similar much firmer superstition about taking a knife with you when you go shooting. The bunny pictured below was a much required and desired treat, rabbits have been few in numbers all winter and out ferreting has been disappointing, and therefore i have not shot any rabbits since early October 2014. Young rabbits are just starting to show and i found myself out of ferret food on a Friday, so i headed out with my Ebral Bros back action twist damascus hammer gun. Its not the best gun i have seen from this maker, however i was learning to re lay ribs, and this gun had that issue, as well as being loose, worn and off its face. Anyway I've worked away at it and everything is tight now and the rest of the work needed is mostly cosmetic. I walked slowly up one of my favorite ferreting warren where through late winter i have shot hundred of rats and seen only a handful of rabbits, as i walked a rabbit bolted from under me and just as the bunny was about to make it into the undergrowth i swung through on it and dropped it at 25 yards, where it rolled down the banking into the mouth of a hole, i had to walk about 500 yards around to get to the mouth of the hole on the other side of the hedge to retrieve my first bunny of the year at this point i realized i had my phone in my pocket and took a pic. Took a second outing with the gun this evening and shot a single crow coming from behind over my left shoulder as it was going away, the shot was good and the crow threw its feet forward but as it fell it then caught the wind, gathered itself and made it clumsily over the hedge line off my permission. I hastily made my way to the field and searched about for my crow however after walking in a 30 yard square patch i could not see it in the crops after 10 minutes of looking. So i went to the car, went home and came back with my springer, the land has a public footpath running through it and it would have just been irresponsible and could have caused issues on the off chance the bird was wounded, however from its reaction i was fairly certain it was laying dead some where. I have been making some good progress recently with her and she managed to find the crow in about ten seconds, which probably would have taken me 20 minutes to find. she wouldn't retrieve it for me but i was only about three yards away, i think once she see's some birds dropping everything will click. (photo of her here on the sofa giving me the all to familiar "dad I'm bored" look.) I'm just about finished up with college for the year till September which mean i can dedicate significantly more time to the dog and the work i enjoy. My certificate is up for renewal at the end of the year and its amazing how much has changed in the last five years, shooting and the shooting community have become so important to me and pigeon watch has become a huge part of that. Through the forums i have met some excellent people who have at every opportunity gone out of their way to help and assist me in my learning and passions, many have influenced me, Welsh Warrior, Underdog, Old Farrier, archie fox, mike737, Bruno22rf, are just some amongst many whom i would like to thank for being just excellent over the last few years. Time makes fools of us, last August Old farrier passed on a hammer gun that had had someone's previous attempt at restocking it done to it, I shot the gun as it was a bit and became rather fond of it, however the begining to crack teak stock with spa varnish was not ideal, i don't actually have any images of that stock but anyway i have finally got around to stocking it. Just having a happy time at the moment.
