Saltings
Hi I have used a stainless steel dog food bole and drilled holes to suit shot size and also used a bucket top mesh type sieve used by fishermen to collect maggots if memory serves I used to get sixes from the maggot sieve Edited May 6, 2015 by Saltings
fortune
a sieve or any container with holes wont work because it will only let a smaller size than the hole through. So if you drill holes for 6 the 7 & 8 ect will go through but the bb.s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, will all be trapped in the sieve with the 6's. It dont work. done that. Think of an inclined plate bar that the shot can be run down and fall off in different bins. bigger will roll further small will come off first. snarepeg
Used to use an old t/v dish, about number 6? But as pointed out will only catch the bigger shot.
oliver90owner
The Mesh Company is the place to go. Choice of materials, mesh and can be cut to size. Buy the size of mesh sheets and make your own rigid boxes. You need two sieves, not one, as stated above but could be made stackable for one operation separation. For separating rather larger metal balls, we used to use a very robust inclined tube with increasing aperture size which was slowly rotated. With lead shot you would need baffles to slow the flow between each mesh size. It was fed with a vibrating feeder over a vibrating screen to remove the smallest sizes for separation elsewhere. If IRCC it separated 90mm down to around 30mm and the smaller sizes, down to about 10mm were dealt with elsewhere. Maybe 50 or 100 tonnes at a session, so rather larger scale than you require!! Don't know how much you intend to make, but checking out shaker stands might be an idea - u-toob, maybe? - as used by vegetable pickers among other uses.
