Ira
Had a look at a big ole pea field yesterday, the farm decided to put em all in one big block and reduce margins for less pigeon impact. BIG SHAME where they were originally going to split it over four fields they would have been much better for shooting. Never mind, at first glance the big field looked really strong, no pigeons, thick crop and the manager has made a good choice, but sat for a while with binos and gradually I saw a line, not massive but steady, probably half a mile down the field, (its a big field) Then about 200- 300 took off back down the flight line, then slowly came back in. theres one tree to get under and a set of lines off to one side that a few birds were coming down also, it looks so promising. I think the majority of the crop looks so strong the farm has not looked at the corners right out the back and thats where its getting it!!! So the birds are out of the freezer, and the hazel is cut, nice south westerly breeze makes it good for the hide placement, sunny spells. Will tomorrow be my day, I don't ask for much, I have yet to have a hundred bird day, now I have bigged it all up Im expecting nothing but hoping for more!!! Paul taylor
Good luck. Hope you get better weather than is forecast for us here, heavy rain all day!😟
Guest Wilksy
Sounds good that peas are in one field, then they won't clear off as soon as you start shooting to another pea field at least, or is that over simplifying things? Good luck anyway, let us know how you get on!
Mightymariner
I would make some flags with tall canes and sacks to flag off other areas of the field, as they will probably head somewhere quieter on that field once you start shooting. Good luck.

Ira
I went with a buddy yesterday and we picked up 47, so not a bad day but not as good as I had hoped, they were moving about the field quite a bit. I should have put some flags out I realised that too late, the bangers are going out this week so I will need to see if that concentrates them feeding or clears them off!! Mark Gilchrist is also coming over so it will be interesting to see how he tackles it, maybe we can all get out and shoot the field together, its big enough!! If you tell Mark Gilchrist that you have already shot the field there is a high probability that he will not turn up.
Ira
Already done that!! Well Ive just text him to see if he might want to shoot it together as its such a big field. The last time I met him he had just beat me to a field I had been watching and set up bang on where I had planned to be, it was harvested beans and unfortunately it never paid up for either him or myself. Trouble is he does it and other vermin control for his part of his living, its more recreational for me so I can only hit it at weekends or take time off, the missus and the kids do like to see me from time to time so I can't go quite as often as I would like. Its a ****** when you turn up on the one good day you have and someone else has just shot it or just turned up, he has my number now so it would be nice to think he would let me know when he goes, its a bit of a trek for him so I imagine amongst his other commitments it would not happen too often..
