grrclark
Ants nest??? The smell may be attracting her and the ant's formic acid causing the symptoms? Never noticed anything like that and it isn't just the one clump of grass. I shall check next time i'm out though
lurchers
Lurchers, I could go along with that if it was just the feet scraping and if he did it after most walks of similar length, but it is only ever after he has been into the grass roots. He is well walked and has never done it at any other time. The behaviour is similar though He is always fine after so not overly concerned, but would like to find out what is causing it. Our does it just off a good walk out but not all the time.but like you say it stops after about 20mins of been back home.
bigbird
Could it be harvest mites or similar and the dog is scratching at roots to try and relieve the itching rather than the roots/soil/plant being the problem I wonder? I don't think so, the gordon is always interested in the same grassy clumps as the golden but she doesn't dig into them and snuffle at them quite the same. The other gordon that we occasionally walk with does the same as the golden, sniffing really hard at the roots and biting them and sometimes she gets the same symptoms. It really is all rather odd, will speak to the vet next week on the ergot theory and also have a look for ants or similar beasties tomorrow, we have walked a different route the last couple of days.
