Couldn't have got much closer!

Went for a walk for a squirrel in the sunshine today at lunchtime. Parked up and hadn't walked 100 yards when a rustling next to the track made me stop. In the high nettles something was moving. Thinking it was a rabbit or squirrel, I stood quietly when a glimpse of red made me think it was a cock pheasant trying to hide. The movement came nearer and nearer and in a gap in the hedge popped a pair of pointy black ears and a ginger head not 5 feet away, looking in the other direction. Up came the 28 bore and a snap shot dropped it back into the nettles. How's that for close range?! Picking up the dead fox I saw it was a barren vixen with a impressive set of nashers and a nice tail. Even though I only had a Gamebore 19gm 6 in at that range there was no denying its deadliness. Sure got the heart beating!! And ended up with a squirrel in the end too.

Good pic and great result. I had a close encounter once when I was walking through a wood in a beat line on a vermin shoot and out of the corner of my eye a orange rusty barrel was on the floor. Well what I thought was a rusty barrel was a fox just sitting staring at me no more than 8ft away! I just froze and looked at it before shooting it off the hip as it was so close. Must of been a dumped town fox.
