naddan28
We have just brought an old dishwasher and put the old one in the garden to take to the tip later in the week. So after a careful thought, we (me and step dad) decided to take a few components out like the concrete blocks etc with the view of reducing the wieght. My step dad was being a bit more methodical with things like the screwdriver but made little progress so went for my more russian method, involving a large garden shovel, hammerdrill/screwdriver and a hacksaw. Which as usual was far more productive and maximised our effiency (good you can tell I spent 3 hours revising principles of finance ) Half way through out of curiousty I took a magnet to the exposed chassis of the dishwasher, which proved to be non magnetic. So I assumed probaly aluminium of some sort? We procedded to strip the entire panneling etc off the dishwasher and are now left with a shell (just as well or all the water inside would have ruining his car!). The question is, is it actually aluminium??? if so, its off down the scrappers I am to bothered as it was quite fun just decimating it, but would be nice for mum to get some extra cash from its remains. Thanks, Dan

I guessed that it was stainless steel but I thought that it would be magnetic, as steel has iron inside it?

Lord Geordie
It's Stainless steel the reason it's NOT magnetic is because of the TYPE of stainless steel. It will have a high content of NICKEL and CHROMIUM in it which changes the structure (molecular) of the steel to NON magnetic. LG
