bluesj
I was in the with a couple of friends in the pub the other day and we got talking about cartridges and lead or steel, plastic or fibre wad. I have only ever used about 50 steel and got on ok with them only pigeon shooting so nothing at great range and when I hit them they fell out of the sky. Other than those 50 I use lead with fibre wads as I don't like leaving bits of plastic all over the place. Now I know that you could get steel with fibre wads but I believe there can be a bit of problem with them. So why not a biodegradable plastic wad, after all carrier bags don't last long before they turn to dust nower days or may be PVA. Any one got any views or incite? Hamster
Kent Cartridge co. the makers of Kent Champions which George Digweed was sponsored by for years marketed a biodegradable plastic wad for a while, don't know if anyone else still loads them but I do know the Champions didn't degrade . TIDES EDGE
I agree with you Bluesj leaving plastic wads allover the country is not good , biodegradable plastic does not work even after years of being out in the elements the way forward is fibre cups as used in some of the Gamebore steel loads . I would like to see all cartridges whether they are lead or steel loaded with these this would bring the price down and give us a clean and pleasant countryside. That was why I was thinking PVS same as used in some fishing stuff bags and string and in some of the packing materials, once it gets wet its gone
BrowningB525
The issue with PVA is that any damp conditions would knacker the wad during storage. I personally think that plastic wads should be banned. They make such a mess.
coldweld
The quicker plastic wads are banned the better !! We can't keep saying we care about the countryside and yet throw tons of plastic ever where.
bluesj
I can say I'm in favour of banning plastic wads not until there is a workable alternative. Same with lead shot Should have read can't say i'm in favour of a ban Edited July 23, 2015 by bluesj

Be careful what you wish for makes me laugh when people say things like that little realising they also throw tons of lead into the countryside . Lead shot isn't as intrusive as plastic wads.
Hamster
Lead shot isn't as intrusive as plastic wads. Expand ? You mean because it's out of sight it matters less ? Lead is a pollutant and it is much much harder to clean up due to its very nature of being tiny and easily buried. Ask building companies who have had to clean up sites due to environmental demands which is the more intrusive in terms of clean up costs. I agree and would be happy to use steel shot for most of my shooting but for the plastic wad that comes with it. I haven't seen deviance of cattle needing vet treatment because of eating lead shot but i that seen it when they have picked up plastic wads. I know lead is toxic so long term it is much worse than a lump of plastic, I suppose it is a bit of out of site out of mind
