Billett
Hi, Is there any restrictions on scopes as there is with gun/parts. I'm traveling to the us and have seen a vortex scope considerably cheaper than in the UK. Can I simply carry a scope back in my luggage or would I need to go through an import company obtaining the right paperwork? Chris
Carman06
I think they are restricted. Scopes over a certain magnification are restricted to be exported from UK too.

Carman06
I'm not too sure to be honest but there should be someone on here who is in the know.
welshwarrior
You'll need to check ITAR some scope are classed as military and the state restrict their export.
phaedra1106
If you're bringing it back from the US and it's a standard rifle scope you should be fine but do not put it in your hold luggage, take it on board as hand luggage. Only scopes which have "image enhancement" or those classed as military types (no, there isn't a list, that would be too easy!) are restricted under ITAR. Also bare in mind you have a customs duty allowance of £390, anything over that amount will be liable for whatever duty, VAT or taxes they decide are appropriate. bang bang birdy
I went to Florida in May . I ordered two scopes on line when I was there and brought them back in my shoot case ( from midway USA 2x Simmons white tail classics ). Had not problems bringing them back. phaedra1106
Have you seen the amount of abuse hold luggage gets?, I certainly wouldn't trust an expensive scope inside a normal suitcase to the baggage handlers!, the TSA advised me to put mine in my carry-on. I agree. Just don't try that with any other firearm parts. Rick
