viking
bet you a pound to a pinch of **** its not as stated a full ground up restoration, people tend to use such words far to loosely nowadays. as said far to many thing seem wrong with this, paint looks shocking with strange tinges in it, silver wheels, galv looks poor, but it has rusty suspension and axles, and for the life of my why would you only take 3 photos, it may well of been rebuilt, 10 years ago im going to contact him for more photos and a decent description of what has and hasnt been done, nothing wrong with the frost covers though, just put my mirrors on today and they also have frost covers
viking
well after working this morning, and shooting this afternoon i finally got to spend a few hours in the garage, ticking jobs off my list one by one first job was to put the rear check straps on, forgot to photo them though, then i was going to put the mud guards on under the wongs but i couldnt work out where they went so i didnt bother, and then the same with the steering box cover, spent 20 mins ****** about with that then gave up, so then i ended up putting the wing mirrors on, frost covers included, although i will remove then when i photo it when it goes up for sale . viking
then i got the rear door door card out which should of fit as its the original door with the original lock on it, and as i got all the door cards from exmoor trim i thought they would, maybe not the front doors as there different locks, anyway, did it fit, did it ****
viking
measuring, marking out and cutting are not my strong point, so i didnt really want to attempt to try get them to fit, but then i thought what the hell, he who dares and all that so first was to mark out and cut round that bottom thing and see how it sits . . viking
right, im not happy about this as its a problem i cant work out, probably some thing simply but i just cant get my head round it, thought id worked it out then realised i hadnt, new i shouldnt of attempted it on my own for many reasons. so on my own this afternoon after shooting i decided to put the bonnet on, how hard can that be i thought? turns out a lot harder than id imagined, sat it on in place, put the hinges in there little curve bits, then sat them down on the bonnet, put the bolts through the realised i had to get underneath to put the washers and nuts on, tried to lift it up a bit but all the bolts just popped out tried it a couple more times with the same result, so had a brew and a fag and gave it a coat of looking at, idea 2, took bonnet back off and atatched one hinge then tried to lift it in place whilst trying to slide it in, wery awkward doing it like that only holding it from one side, one mistake and its dents and scratched paint work time, but thankfully my persistence paid off, so then i got the other hinge bolted on, so far so good
viking
so now it was time to put the bonnet stay on, few nuts and bolts, nice and easy . .
viking
all done so i thought, so tried to shut it, gave it a bit of a gentle slam, bang, wouldnt shut at all, so tried a few more times but still wouldnt shut, so another brew and a fag and a right good think, shut it again to see if the striker was going in to the hole and it seemed like it wasnt lining up properly. so undid the striker plate and tried to move it down but there wes only a few mm play in it, so tried it at that but still didnt go in, now im thinking the new radiator pannel is wrong, or maybe the bulkhead is to far back, at this point i just wanted to pack it all in, but i decided it wasnt going to beat me, although i had to pack up at 6pm as i was off out for tea, so i decided to take the striker plate off and make all the holes and gaps bigger to enable it to slide down a bit, now i really didnt want to have to do this but now i was off my ****,
viking
so moved it down a bit and tightened it all back up, sat the bonnet down and it all seemed to line up nicely, and the striker plate hid my butchery work so gave it another gentle slam and did the same, just seemed like it was banging on some thing, so then i got mad with it and gave it a good slam, well begger me it shut perfectly, so now i was thinking its a new spring on the striker, just needs a decent slam, happy as larry i was, 5.45pm and all done in time, started packing the tools away and thought id just take a few picture of it all done, and then i noticed this. ****** i was gutted. viking
for some reason id convinced myself id put the hinges on upside down, changed them and it will be all sorted, not time to do it but an easy job for tomorrow, whilst having tea i was looking at the pictures and realised if i turned the hinges upside down then it would be even worse, so now im back to square one, not a bloody clue whats gone on
ditchman
under the bonnet you should have 2 levelling screws left and right which should have rubber ends to them..............those will keep the bonnet level....the bonnet should be closed.....lowered...it will go "click".....then push it down and it will lock into position................ have a long look at the mechanism and see how it works with the capture plate and side lock and catch.............for it to work proper everything has to line up nicely.....youve lost you rag and butchered the front now ...naughty boy........its not the easiest job to do it is a bit complicated.................there are several adjustments to do to get it right
viking
im going to give it another go tomorrow, in a more sane mood never seen any leveling screws though

viking
did totally nothing for the gap at the side though, seemed to be about as shut as shut can be at the front though so im now at a loss, checked some old pictures and it was ok when i bought it, same bonnet, hinges, wings, different radiator panel but iv measured that and its the same , .
