Brodie
Thinking about getting a pair of the passive protectors Anyone know how long they take to make once they get the mould impressions. Thanks
malmick
Mine were a few weeks and I'm happy with the passives. Have used them for .22, .223, .308 and shotgun. They work well.
norfolk dumpling
Do they enhance hearing as well as suppressing gunfire? I'm a bit deaf but find over the ear protection gets hit by my gun as I've got a short fattish face.
malmick
The passives don't enhance hearing but I can hold conversations a lot better with them than I could with any other alternatives that I tried. I've used over ear and in ear (Napier) with headbands and a variety of ear plugs. I've not used the active inserts but others I've spoken with say that they allow better levels of hearing ambient sounds without things like wind and rustling clothes or hoods being too much of a problem, good for hearing range instructions and hunting. Cheers, Mick
LancsLad45
The passive CENS are just ear plugs moulded to fit in your ear comfortably. I believe you can upgrade the passive ones to the electronic ones though if you decide to at a later date (you might have to stipulate at time of buying you want this option as it maybe just certain models that can upgrade, not sure). Brodie
Thanks for the replies. I'm looking at the Cens passives as I can upgrade to digital if i wish at a later date.
BigEd85
Thanks for the replies. I'm looking at the Cens passives as I can upgrade to digital if i wish at a later date. Hi Brodie, I had the opportunity to test both for an extended period of time. The CENS digital are excellent and almost act as a hearing aid for normal speech etc, as you can imagine on a windy day this can be effected somewhat but you can get some foam ear muffs that help. The passives are excellent as well and the custom moulds are by far the most comfortable around. Tested in an undercover range exposed to all sorts of calibres all the way up to a unmoderated 30-06 ATB Ed
maxwell
Hi I use the Cens passive, they arrived a couple of weeks after the moulds were taken, as above i use for SG and CF, very comfortable for all day use and excellent value
kyska
Me too, I use the passives, had my moulds done at a spec savers audiology service, took a couple of weeks I think, I too use them for SG and CF, very comfortable
Cosd
Passives work very well, very comfy for all day use, so much so I've actually driven home with them after a days shooting forgetting they are in!! CENS are a great company to deal with also.
malmick
Just for the record the passives are not merely moulded ear plugs. They have inserts that have sonic valves in them. These inserts can be replaced by a variety of digital ones.
Zechk
Best £100 I have spent on anything to do with shooting. I had mine done in the most lurid neon orange ever so I could spot them if I dropped them in the field. Super comfortable, effortless to look after and the best bit is you can use the passives when it's lashing it down without worrying that your 500 quids worth of electronic modules are going to get wet. I use them for everything, clays, game, foreshore, even for mixing cement under a car port the other day when the noise of the mixer in a confined space was making my vision blur. Just get them. Also for those in the London area the lovely lady at Aid2Hearing did my impressions and sent them off to Cens. Can't recommend her enough either. Edit: Oh and mine took 3 weeks! Zechk
(you might have to stipulate at time of buying you want this option as it maybe just certain models that can upgrade, not sure). You don't - the passive modules are the exact same size as the electronic ones and interchangeable with the standard £100 plug. Essentially all of the plugs are the same - you just pick what insert you want (passive or electronic) and that's where the money is or isn't.
