WelshMike
I decided to leave the NV at home and take the rifle and lamp out for a change. Had a walk for a couple of hours on 2 farms with no luck. As usual I decided to have one last look in a couple of fields that border around 70 acres of maize. Called for a couple of minutes (Mark one hand caller) but nothing showed. As I was about to leave I heard something push under the fence about 50-60 yards straight in front of me. Quick flick of the lamp revealed a nice pair of fox eyes shining back at me. Lay down, rifle mounted lamp on, target acquired, 80 grain soft point on its way, fox down. 45 yard chest shot. The rifle is a Browning X Bolt Hunter Eclipse in .243, PES T12 mod, Swarovski Z6I 5-30 X 50 BT IR Scope with a NM 800 lamp on top.

WelshMike
Spear distance, get a spear :-) The amount of stick I get for using a .17 hmr and you suggest a spear....shocking. Do you have one I can borrow if I change my mind?
Dougy
Well done mike, never seen them that close alive, anyway. Must say the scopes a bit OTT for lamping ;-) Its my choice on a sako superb.

To be fair I shot a fox on Saturday night at about the same range with the lamp. Must be my aftershave I dont normally use this rifle for lamping, in fact it is rare I use a lamp anymore with the NV. I must confess I enjoyed the change. Tends to be reserved for the deer and the occasional fox during daylight hours. You certainly get a nice clear view with it

I was expecting to see him legging it across the field when I picked him up in the scope, but he was obviously trying to figure out what was going on. Spoke to the farmer and he is happy as I have now shot 18 on his ground (350 acres) since March,

I've had 2 dogs and 3 Vixens now all well within 100 yards, 5 shots 5 clean kills. So I'm happy for the time being!!

I have shot a fair few with the .17 HMR but like the added range of the .243. Keep up the good work
