aga man
Heading out to a poorly Aga this morning i was distracted by some pigeon flightines. The best i have seen in a while in fact strong multple lines coming form all angles. Of course i diverted and followed the lines which led me to a field of standing beans. Omg there was some pigeons here! and more joining. With in ten minutes i had located the farm and spoke to the farmer. A nice old chap who used to keep cows. Within minutes i had him charmed and as we spoke you could see the cloud of pigeons lift from the beans. The farmer seemed keen to let me have a go but as is always the case the pheasant shoot [witch he is a standing gun] is due to take place on the 28th and the beans also hold a good number of pheasants, he felt he would be in big trouble if he allowed access. The estate next door which i have access also don't allow pigeon shooting during the pheasant season. I left the farmer my card and invited him to ring me if he needs a pigeon shooter, which he said he will. We will see! A bit gutted but realised after all these years i still get a buzz out of seeing so many pigeons! The pictures off my phone do not give a true picture of the amount of birds on the field 2000+ i reckon, roll on 31st Jan.

fenboy
With out doubt the most pigeons I have ever seen on one field were feeding on a few acres of beans that had been left standing during the winter , there would not have been a square foot of crop without a pigeon on , I also got my request to shoot it turned down ! Columba Grey
A good post. How frustrating. Nothing like the buzz from seeing a huge number of birds not that it's very common in NI.
