grrclark
I was expecting to see an announcement on this subject after the SNP were challenged on why they would object about bringing the law in England & Wales into line with Scotland during the Westminster discussions around fox hunting. http://www.thecourier.co.uk/news/scotland/fox-hunting-laws-to-be-reviewed-1.917326 It will be interesting to see what the conclusions are and whether it will be an objective and considered recommendation from Lord Bonomy or will it be nothing other than a cynical and manipulative move? I absolutely expect the latter. The SNP will see this as an opportunity to be seen to delivering a blow to the rich and wealthy and garner more support from the ignorant. Scully
I think your expectations will prove to be correct GC. Reading between the lines it seems that it is at least one groups intention that a 'review' comprises entirely of closing existing loopholes. Time to get writing in Scotland, methinks. Indeed, if it is extended to public contribution then I shall write to them, even although hunting with hounds is not my thing, but given that there was a 90%+ response against the air licensing bill and it was flatly ignored then I hold out little hope. Scully
Yep, it makes a mockery of the consultation period when the agenda is a foregone conclusion. Perhaps the point you raise regarding the air licensing bill would be worthwhile being mentioned when writing in response to this latest proposal. At least that way bureaucrats would be aware of the level of cynicism with which the general public regard the consultation period.
grrclark
I certainly would mention the disregard of majority opinion during the consultation process, but sadly that does not matter to the SNP when they are absolved of accountability by their popular support. I also intend to raise it through the Conservative party who are really the only people in the political establishment who will challenge the SNP on issues such as these, but as you can imagine it is like trying to stop a runaway train with some sticky tape and chewing gum. In the grand scheme of their impositions this is small beer. They are a most insidious bunch, yet they are cheered by so many, it worries me how easily we can be led through a bit of flag waving and hijacked patriotism. It is unbridled jingoism. panoma1
Scotland under the SNP it seems is a shining example of a democracy at work...........not!
grrclark
It's the worst kind of politics, well to my mind at least, because so much of it is gesture driven to buy popularity. They have very much taken on the socialist voice that appeals so much in Scotland, but they are not following socialist politics, they are deceiving their electorate. I appreciate that we could argue that about Westminster too in terms of misleading the electorate, but it is different here. Fuelled by things like free prescription fees, free higher education, council tax freezes, etc they appear at face value to be giving something to the electorate, but they really are not. It buys them huge support so they can further their nationalist agenda and dress that up as fairness and equality, but it is a lie. I freely admit I am no supporter of socialism, but my contempt towards them is not just my inner tory, I think they are dangerously manipulative and frankly irresponsible in how they promote their message. SNP support is damn near cult like. It is a remarkable thing to witness in some respects and although the motivation is different from the more extreme European socialist national parties of the last 80 or so years the way that their followers have become so full in their belief is similar, it is quite scary. panoma1
It appears Trotskism, Marxism and a sham 'dictatorship of the proletariat' are alive and well and flourishing in Scotland
