greenergp
Hi i have just joined the forum as i am just getting back into Fowling after a long break I used to shoot on the Clyde at Milton or Erskine and also a bit of shooting in Uist about 35-40 years ago in those days i used to have a 10 bore double and an H&R 10 single and used to reload them as well. I have a son who has just started shooting (mainly clays) i have told him he should get into "proper shooting" The main changes i have noticed is we can no longer use lead shot but on the upside the advent of the internet has made has made things like checking the tides for the entire season really easy, also reloading data and cartridge info or planning to buy gear like decoys clothes and all the other stuff i would need is just there at the click of a mouse The area i plan to take my son to is the Forth Estuary but its an area that i know nothing about, can anyone give me some pointers on where to access different bits of the foreshore...i an not looking for someones sweet spot, just some tips on where to go or more importantly where not to go, i dont want to take my son down and get him into trouble with the law or any landowners. Any tips would be much appreciated Thanks...James

kent
As above Internet tides have proven wrong as predictions in relation to other trusted sources Not sure why but it's best to have a tide book and do the adjustments for yourself for venue and most importantly weather

flippermaj
I don't shoot this area but I think skin flats is one area you should look at then you have the jmc park at tyningham. Cheers

Tide highs are not wrong , they maybe taken at different stations , resulting in a difference. Kings Lynn tide times are a meter different ,depending n where they are taken. Bloody stupid and dangerous , especially as there is no warning

Bloody stupid and dangerous , especially as there is no warning I suspect that is not correct I should think a corrupted cell in the programing? Seriously a mate was using them and noticed big errors You see tide books can be checked and referenced against previous days though I have never seen a book error
Farma Geddon
Tide times for Lynn are 1m different depending which paper or book you use. No mistake , just different stations.
dawntredder
The h&r is a hell of a pipe I used one for geese in 2012 was great hammer gun!
rjimmer
After a few years you will only have to look at the shape of the moon to know what the tide will do, then allow for wind direction and strength.

The H&R cost me £95 new from Crockets in Glasgow in 1980, i wish i still had it along with the reloading gear

I don't know Lynn but most books give adjustment from one venue here in the nw we use Liverpool dock or morecambe tables then adjust plus or minus for other areas There are certainly errors I won't use the net full stop others can do as they wish under this advice There is of course still more adjustments to make that you won't get in the book Fresh water comming in from floods Wind strength and direction Pressure out at sea Even one off lunar events What you don't want to do is get it wrong it's not just having a bad flight people have died and whatever we do it will happen again it's not such a freak occurance.
