WelshMike
Still trying to catch up with getting around the farms so back out last night. Not ideal conditions as it was clear, bright moon and there was a hard frost so it was like walking on cornflakes. The first couple of farms were all quiet which is good as the farmer has a zero tolerance when it comes to foxes. As I mentioned in a previous post I have taken on a few more acres which consists of 2 farms fairly close to home. Both are fantastic spots with steep fields and a good bit of woodland on or bordering both farms. I got to the first farm walked into the first field set up the caller and just as I had a second scan with the lamp picked up a pair of eyes. Over to the NV to confirm it was a fox sat about 190 yards away. Since he was the other side of a hedge I had to walk about 5 yards to get a view of him through the gate. I tried every call known to man on the foxpro but no interest, in fact he lay down and gave the odd glance in my direction. I remember a cracking technique that Underdog suggested about using legs to get closer but it was so still and crunchy that after I moved a couple of yards (and checked through the NV) the fox had sat up and was looking in my direction. Lay down in some half frozen half muddy patch, lined up on his shoulder and away went an 80 grain round which found its mark. Did a bit more calling for 10 minutes with no more sign of fox activity so off to collect the fox. The shot would have been around the 185 yard mark and he was one big old lad in excellent condition. A good start on a new permission. Another couple of hours around the 2nd new farm a some serious hill climbing drew a blank so off home. Thanks for reading

foosa
Well done Mike, it can be tricky/frustrating sometimes when one is just sat there but you ain't got a safe shot, unless it's completely dark and you got the wind in your favour I find moving closer spooks them quickly. Cheers mate. I was lucky that the gateway was close enough to him that I could get a clear shot..good job the gate was open well done mike another good result we were out last night and it was cold and very crunchy Cheers mate. It doesnt help that the ground is so wet. It is almost impossible to be stealthy when walking around. Did you have any luck last night?
