evo
supergoose75,,, very well written,, I have to say I enjoy watching khan fight, he has incredible hand speed but I do think getting that speed is affecting his balance thus affecting his power, if he planted his feet a bit more I think he would produce more power,, with regards khan,s fights they sometimes do have me on the edge of my seat when he decides to mix it and gets clipped, Gordon don't know what went on mate but I take it he got off with the assault regards the quigg Frampton fight I personally think quigg will stop the little irish fella, I think Frampton struggled in his last outing and that quigg is a class above,
winnie&bezza
Regarding the glass chin question, I boxed as an amateur when I was younger and taking a punch in the ring is totally different from taking one out of it. In the ring you have the adrenaline build up ready for the fight (and fear) which is immense and then when the bell tolls you are in tunnel vision fight mode so you hardly feel anything and your expecting it. If your not expecting say on a night out and someone whacks you out of the blue then it will have more of an effect due to shock. Compared to a lot of fighters khan has a poor chin, look at Wayne mculloch that mans jaw was iron and it was sickening sometimes seeing him taking so much punishment and not go down. Khan is not a bad finisher when he troubles opponents and throws good fast combinations but he still has the amateur way about him of speed speed speed and almost punching for points instead of thinking about what he's doing and using his brain. Give me a proper Mexican fighter over khan anyday as khan hasn't got the guile, ring craft or brain to win big big fights. Or the chin. Gordon R
winnie&bezza - agreed. evo - Gordon don't know what went on mate but I take it he got off with the assault From memory Khan was approaching a pedestrian crossing - lights were on red - he overtook a car by crossing into the opposite side of the road. He knocked down a Bolton man. The man's son in law worked for me. He suffered tremendous injuries and turned to drink - to ease his constant pain. The family blamed Khan for his death - not unnaturally. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-563293/Boxer-Amir-Khan-blamed-drink-death-broken-man-steel-worker-ran-sports-car.html Khan inferred that fast reactions made it okay for him to drive as he did. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/375666/Amir-Khan-Pedestrian-was-knocked-down-Hearing-in-progress.html Those same lightning reactions that failed him when hit by Peterson, Limond, Garcia, Gomez and Prescott. His humbleness, which eluded my attention at the time, seems to have disappeared over the years. He just seems arrogant, boastful and a complete numpty. That is as nice as I can be about him. I do repeat though - he has some bottle to get into a ring not knowing if he will leave with his limited intelligence still intact.
SuperGoose75
I'm sorry but he does seem to have a glass chin, timing and speed or not, Your question of how many on here ever got a proper bang on the chin is irrelevant as we are not putting ours in a sport where if you get hit you go down, He is an ok boxer, but not an ok fighter........you can have the fastest hands and footwork but when someone lands a punch, lucky or not and you go down then your night is over I dont think its irrelevent at all. Maybe I could have elaborated more to make my point, in which case I will. My questioned was more to point out and wonder if any one actually knew what it was like to take a good punch and I am sure there are plenty who do know and it is relevent to the discussion to make the point. And who's to say there are not people on here who take part in combat sports and therefore know what im trying to say. I will give one example and it goes against what Winnie&bezza has put although I do understand where he is coming from. Now i have had my fair share of scraps over the yrs growing up ect and have been hit a manys a time..Some in fair fights and others like Winnie&bezza has said whacked out of the blue. I remember as a teenager sparring with a fella in the gym and we were to practice our jabs and not throw any big shots. All was going well until yourman threw a right hand and hit me on the Chin' not overly powerful but wherever he hit me on the chin it had effect and I felt it going striaght to my legs and my knees when to jelly for a split second..I didnt go down but i will always remember that punch. For what its worth I didnt let it go and gave him a good trimming the next night we sparred. But to the point, over the years i have been hit a hell of a lot harder on occasions but never, ever did I get that feeling that i did that night after being hit bang on the chin.Would i say i had a glass chin..No way..! Plus I dont agree with what you say in your last sentence. An ok boxer but not a ok fighter...Khan always trys to fight back after being hurt and tht shows heart plus he comes back after defeats to go again and therefore for me that is the sign of a true fighter. He could very easily do a Naseem Hamed and dissapear after a defeat but he doesnt. Plus you say once you go down your night is over..this is not necessirly true either. In some cases yes but not always..Some fighters can clear their heads quiker and therefore continue. Many a fighter has been knocked down including Khan and has got up and went on to win the fight. Most of the great names in Boxing have been on there *** at on time or another...the list is endless Ali,,Frazier,Eubank,Benn, sugar ray leonard, hearns,Tyson ect ect..Grooves put Froch down in the first fight, but froch recovered and went on to stop George. Froch then again stopped Grooves with one shot in their second fight..I dont here people going around saying George Grooves has a glass chin.Trevor berwick was world heavyweight champion and i never heard anyone say he had a glass chin and look what a punch from Tyson done to his head and the wau his body reacted. I completely undertsand where Gordon R is coming from and I can tell he also is a true boxing fan and I respect what he says. But remember Gordon Khan, v prescott 2 was on until prescott was tested positive for a banned substance and the fight was called off and right Khan was too..So you cant hold that against him. I dont know about Peterson but i do know that the Garcia fight is much talked about and whos to say it wont happen. And as far as I know the Kell brook fight looks likely to happen this year. And just to add' how many good fighters have failed to avenge defeats yet go down as Great fighters. Carl Froch will go down as one of the best ever British fighters yet i never heard him screaming from the roof tops looking for a rematch with Andre ward before he hung up the gloves. There are many more fighters also who got defeated but ended up as greats. I dont think you will ever be fan of Khans and that is your every right and i also agree his humbleness seems to have disappeared and he may not be able to take a decent punch and his new born lamb impressions might amuse some but i think he has more to give and this could be an exciting yr for him and i will be looking forward to watching him.. Win,lose or draw.
winnie&bezza
I know what you mean goose about one punch but with sparring you don't have that adrenaline build up that made me feel it less in proper bouts. Also it depends if your mouths open and get hit square on the chin because your always meant to bite down on your gum shield. When I was 14 I lost a bout against someone on points who I only found after had won all his six fights on stoppages and was a year older than me. From round one (He did go down in that round) his punches were a lot harder than I felt before and they were really jarring solid shots but where I was in the zone with adrenaline flowing I didn't really fee it until after the fight went to walk out the ring and had flashing lights and a bit unsteady getting through the ropes haha. So I didn't feel it until I was back to normal and there was not one point where I thought I'd go down.
cwmmawr
Don't see any reason why Khan didn't deserve a shot against Mayweather or Pacquiao Maidana had two fights against Mayweather Khan beat him. Zab Judah fought Mayweather Khan's beaten him Algeri fought Pacquiao Khan beat him. Robert Guerro and Andre Berto both had shots against Floyd you cant tell me there are any better than Khan. I am not saying Khans way ahead but he deserved a chance in my opinion.

I totally get what you are saying but I also think it could have the opposite effect on a fighter. As you say Adrenaline,Fear ect are good things if you can control them but they also can be your downfall. Apoligies for keeping going back to the Mcgregor v Aldo fight but i want to use it as an Example of what I mean. It was clear to see before the fight that Aldo had all them emotions bubbling under his skin.Andrenaline,Fear, hatred ect and this was his downfall. he dived in an McGregor was able to crack a Solid mass of Emotion wth one shot and it was night, night Irine. Had Aldo being more loose and cacious would the same punch McGregor threw, would it have had the same effect..? I dont think it would have. If you are hitting something rigid it will have more effect than hitting something loose. Im not trying to be a philospher or scientist but i will give an example of what im trying to say. If it was snowing or freezing outside and you built two snowmen.. One the night before and it was frozen solid into a block of ice and then built another from fresh Snow in the Morning. Then take a sledge hammer and take a swipe at both of their heads..You hit the frozen solid one and his head is gonna Roll...Hit the fresh one and you will make an indent only but part of the head will still be there. A bit far out of an example I know' but im sure you get my Meaning. That is also why Boxers tend to Stay on their toes, if they get hit logic' says the impact will not be as great whereas if they are Caught Flat footed then the impact is greater and they may keel over.! That is why i find these Boxing Cliches silly..Like glass chin, Jaws of granite ect..Believe it or believe it not..Most Chins and jaws are made of the same stuff and that is Flesh and Bone. I think ive said more than enough on this thread.

I think ive said more than enough on this thread. and muscle, lets not forget that,, boxers are usually on their toes for balance and for speed, only when they plant their feet can they really deliver power, also it is the shockwave through to the brain from the impact of a punch that causes the damage, some don't even get hit on the chin but when hit on the side or even the back of the head the shockwave to the brain from the punch make them appear seriously drunk and unable to balance, I was only ever put down once, I don't remember anything bar for looking at the canvas and hearing the count of 5-6-7 which is when I started to get up, I made it to the end of the round but the ref stopped the fight due to an accidental clash of heads bursting my eye open. it was my own fault for walking onto a left uppercut lol I avenged the loss two fights later with a points win, khan has just taken a fight at middleweight to a guy who has only lost once and that was to mayweather , I personally think Saul Alvarez will certainly beat him,,but I hope not but if khan uses his speed there might be a shock on the cards but I certainly doubt that as Alvarez has only lost one fight in 48 and that was to mayweather who made a fool of him
winnie&bezza
Fair play and good on you Evo. Everyone can get knocked out, Tyson,Lewis, pacqiuao etc but that doesn't make you a bad fighter. I do believe some people take shots better than others but that's also down to defense and their balance when they take the shot. And some are just down right harder. Leg strength also helps a lor like pacqiuao, he could take a shot and he had calfs tree trunks. He did walk onto a massive right hand by Marquez and was out cold. As Evo says about where you get hit, I could never understand how mayweather put Hatton down with that cleft hook In the corner of the ring as mayweather was leaning back and didn't look like he got a lot of power behind it but he caught Ricky on top of the head which had a lot of effect. I`m far from an expert but I know there are a few reasons knock outs occur. A lot of the time it`s due to repetitive concussions where the brain is bouncing around inside the skull and eventually the brain just shuts down. Having a thick strong neck helps against this type of ko. The other type I know of are blows that connect directly with a major artery like the carotid. This type of blow can cut off the blood and oxygen supply to the brain causing unconciousness. This is most likely the type of ko that looks like a relatively light blow (Ali vs Frasier?). You can see a similar effect in grappling martial arts where there are two types of choke/strangle holds. Some cut off air supply and can be resisted for quite some time before unconsciousness occurs. However a well applied choke that cuts off the blood supply to the brain can have an almost instantaneous effect.
